We are pleased to announce that the first set of Power Query features are now available in version 16.29 and greater. At this stage you can refresh from text, CSV, XLSX, JSON and XML files.

Refer to the following blog post for more details:
    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Excel-Blog/Get-amp-Transform-Power-Query-in-Excel-for-Mac-Phase-1/ba-p/876840

I encourage you to try the new functionality and share your feedback with us via Send a Smile/Frown at the top right corner in your Excel for Mac.

The latest Excel for Mac (v 16.29 and later) can refresh from Text, CSV, XLSX, XML and JSON files, but not when those files are on SharePoint Online (or other cloud storage locations). Please add this functionality, as we are moving to SPO and away from file servers. I know I can refresh from a local copy (via OneDrive sync client), but each person's local file path may be different, so a shared Excel file won't update correctly for each person.

The latest Excel for Mac can refresh data from Text, CSV, XLSX, XML and JSON files, but not when those files are on SharePoint Online (or other cloud storage locations, such as Dropbox).

In particular, when the files are on SharePoint Online, such as a .CSV or .XLSX file. The latest Excel for Mac can refresh from Text, CSV, XLSX, XML and JSON files, but not when those files are on SharePoint (or other cloud storage locations).
