Agreed. I do a lot of migrations to SharePoint and run into this all the time. SharePoint now supports 400 characters in the path, but Excel internally doesn't, nor does a SharePoint URL column. This is super frustrating, especially with the overhead of a cloud storage URL, which is a lot longer than the three characters for a drive letter like S:\

Is anyone at Microsoft still looking at this? Scott Ruble's reply is three years old, but nothing has happened.

And please use the regional settings of the machine that is refreshing the query. So for Germany it would be "Dez" instead of "Dec"

Good suggestion Frederic – thanks for taking the time to post it. We’ll take a look at the F4 loop and including other functionality like this as soon as we can. We’ll be spending more time on the things with more votes – so folks that really want to see this should keep voting it up.

    Best,
    John [MS XL]

Thanks to everyone who commented on this topic. This is certainly an idea that we’ll consider, but in the meantime, I wanted to mention that if you can’t see all the sheet tabs, you can right-click on the navigation arrows to bring up the “Activate” dialog, which gives a scrollable list of the sheets, so you can select the one you want and navigate to it. I know it’s not exactly what’s being suggested.

As with other ideas, we’ll look to see how many people vote on this, so vote for it if this is an area you want to see improved.

    Thanks,
    Steve (MS Excel)

Great suggestion, thanks David! And thanks to other people who took the time to clarify/comment on this one. There’s definitely room to tighten this experience up in a number of places. We’re getting a lot of traffic on the site, so please keep voting for the things you care about most to help us do a great job of prioritizing.

Thanks to Graham for starting this conversation. If you would also like Excel to maintain named range references and structured table references in the “applies to” field for Conditional Formatting rules, please add your comments and vote this one up. We will prioritize accordingly.

    Thanks,
    Steve (MS Excel)

Thanks for the suggestion Jessica. We’ve got a few other suggestions on the site that are similar with scientific notation, etc. We’ll take a look at this area, and pay special attention to any cases that get a lot of votes. So please keep the votes coming to help us do a good job at prioritizing asks like this!

    Cheers,
    John [MS XL]
