Thanks for the support and the detailed discussion around this suggestion. We understand that there are some advantages and disadvantages with both MDI (multi-document interface) and SDI (single-document interface), and we currently do not have plans to revert to MDI. We do want to improve the experience with SDI so you can get your work done efficiently, and this post has helped toward that goal.

Some of the specific issues mentioned are addressed as follows:
    – Stability: This has been a focus over the past several years, and the monthly releases in 2020 have been among the most reliable ever in terms of avoiding crashes.
    - Screen space – while it won’t get all the space back, you can minimize the ribbon to save some space. It only shows when needed.
    - Navigation between workbooks: you can use CTRL+F6, SHIFT+CTRL+F6, CTRL+TAB or SHIFT+CTRL+TAB to switch to the next workbook. …

I like this feature, too. I've got multiple monitors and often have multiple unrelated workbooks open. It's nice to have multiple windows. Very nice.

Thank you for taking your time to suggest and vote for allowing interaction with Excel while in Power Query Editor window. We do think that this suggestion has merit but we don’t think that we’ll be able to devote time to it in the near future. We’ll continue tracking votes for it.

YES! I would love to be able to at least go back and look at the workbook. Just scroll around and select different sheets. That would be a major win.

Thanks for your support of this suggestion and all the great ideas in the comments. We have at least one improvement planned (resizing the dialogs – see link in the description), and we’re looking at some additional improvements.

If you have specific ideas that aren’t already listed, please add them in a comment.

    PLEASE!!!!
I can change the formula myself, I'd like the arrow keys to just move the cursor.

Kenneth, yes. Exactly. The Evaluate Formula.
I just had a problem tonight. I had a massive formula that was generating #N/A after just 2 steps and I hadn't had a chance to see where it was bombing out.

    This is a big deal!

When I set a view area, that's all the user needs to see. But if the "view full size workbook" they end up over at ExcelOnline, seeing pages that just have calculations on them.

    Thus, it creates confusion.

Right now, I'm about to embed a very simple form ... but it has 50 pages of calculations (A sheet for each US State). 100% unnecessary for a user to see.

I'm aware of the JavaScript way of removing that toolbar, and it's a hassle.

Thank you for taking the time to share your request for linking min/max values of a chart axis to the cell value! We think this suggestion has merit; however, we don’t expect to devote time to it in the near future. We will continue tracking votes and comments here, and will keep this suggestion under consideration for future development.

Thank you again, and please keep sharing your thoughts!

I've only got 2 votes left, so I'll add a comment in support of this suggestion.

I've got data that goes from 8000 to 10,000 ( and will change as more data is added). But my chart goes from 0 to 16,000.

It would be helpful if I could just point the min and max points to cells that calculate those data points.

We need a single Excel across platforms. And I disagree with the idea that there needs to be a toggle for enabling and disabling "advanced" features. Who's to decide what's advanced?

The problem I'm having as a consultant with all these different versions of Excel and the mysterious system for updates is knowing who has what version and features.

Some people are currently blogging about the IFS function. Well, they'd better be careful about sharing documents that have IFS because not everybody has it.

As far as "advanced" features toggle, what would that look like if I have to create a Power Query solution for a client? Would I also have to guide them through a maze of sub-sub-sub-sub menus to turn on advanced features that they then wouldn't remember how to guide someone else to?

We need more consistency. And I'm extra sensitive to this because my job is all about creating solutions for other people.

I agree with this. It would be such a help to be able to name a table when creating the table.

Hi all – thanks for your support for this suggestion.

Improving data validation drop down lists by adding autocomplete is a great idea, as well as supporting structured table references in the data validation Source range.

Auto-complete would be an excellent feature in data validation. Lots of times I've had to put several hundred items in a dropdown list. Let's eliminate scrolling and make it easier to get through the long list of options.
