I tried to vote for this but some bug in this site prevents me from doing so today.

However, it is possible to create a restore function using macros. I created such a function years ago in Office 2003 and it still works (at least up to Office 2013). One macro saves the names, window sizes and positions of every open file in a text file. Another one reopens each of those files when I open Word. I've automated it by putting links to the macros in the Autoexit and Autoopen macros. I haven't done it for Excel and PPT yet because I don't usually have multiple open files in those apps, but it should be possible to set up the same system.

    >How bad is your clients' spelling that this is actually an issue? :P

The spelling is my own. It's pretty good, but I need it to be perfect. My clients write in Japanese and I translate it. But I have to keep their formatting, including linked pictures.

If it's too difficult for MS programmers to spellcheck back through the links, they should at least put a warning in the spellchecker. E.g., "Not all content on this sheet could be checked. Please check linked cells manually." "You're good to go" is a bit irresponsible in my opinion.

I’m happy to let you know that we are in the planning stages to make Excel for Windows scroll without jumping to the edge of the cell so you’ll be able to scroll smoothly. We don’t yet have a target date, but wanted to tell you about our plans.

We appreciate all the votes and comments supporting this suggestion.

    Thanks – Steve K [Excel]

One of the worst things about text functionality in Excel is the different behavior of text when editing, in print preview, and in hard copy. Lines that fit perfectly on screen are suddenly too long and drop down, causing the last line of text to disappear. I waste huge amounts of time, paper and ink trying to get text-heavy spreadsheets to print out properly.

Thanks for the suggestion Jessica. We’ve got a few other suggestions on the site that are similar with scientific notation, etc. We’ll take a look at this area, and pay special attention to any cases that get a lot of votes. So please keep the votes coming to help us do a good job at prioritizing asks like this!

    Cheers,
    John [MS XL]
