    I support that suggestion strongly.
    Why?
    Because padding improves the readability. Specially the vertikal padding.
    It is nothing new at all. Every typograf can confirm that.

    Are there workarounds?
    No.
    Because as soon as you have cell content with different heights, you cannot just resize the height of all rows manually.

    Result:
    At the moment there's no way to get a proper and consistant "space" between cell content and border.

    Please bring us padding for Excel.

    In Libreoffice that feature exists from the beginning.
