Thank you for voting for “there’s a problem with the clipboard” issue. I think this refers to this error dialog: “There’s a problem with the clipboard, but you can still paste your content within this workbook."

When Excel shows this dialog after a copy (CTRL+C) action, it means that another app has a lock on the system clipboard. In this situation you can still paste within Excel. However you cannot paste to another app like Word or Outlook which uses the clipboard.

A while ago we made some improvements for Office365 users so that this error message only shows once per Excel instance. This was based on customer feedback – the design change prevents it popping up multiple successive times when the clipboard is locked. We have also considered never showing the error dialog, but there was user feedback that this message is informative and helpful in some cases.

    So I posted this January 12 2019,

"Perhaps someone could direct to a discussion where this has been tackled, but I keep getting this error "there's a problem with the clipboard, but you can still past this content within this workbook " with simple cut/copy and paste actions in Excel. The error box pops up and an alert sounds (which is super annoying) after every paste. I can still perform the actions however my selection is not highlighted and I can't be sure that I have selected the correct information until I do a paste in the same,or another, worksheet. I have Excel 2016 in Office 365 on a machine running Windows 10."

I posted this in November 2016 in the appropriate Microsoft Community and to this day there are regular responses and comments at the issue not having been resolved (over 35,000 views and over 200 responses. It is still happening. However today someone called 'Nathan Roberts' (SunkNath) apparently a moderator, has decided to lock the thread deciding that coming here was the only way forward. Is there anyone here who has a clue about this? Two years on and Stephen Goodman is posting the same problem. Want to know how to improve Excel for Windows? Come up with a solve for this problem."

Yes, Anonymous, I have been regularly updating Office with no improvement.

I find it amazing that I am still getting regularly notifications for people responding to this post so many years later. It is now just a game for me.

I originally posted this in November 2016 and it is still ongoing. Wow!! Coming up to four years hundreds of complaints and still MS does nothing. Hey, Mr Gates, why not spend a tiny amount of your Billions on fixing this ongoing issue.
