I totally agree that a better way of getting the path and filename in the CELL function is needed.

      Note:

This would also allow the exact filename to be found more easily; eg by using SUBSTITUTE(CELL("Filename"),CELL("Path","")). The current way of finding a file's name is cumbersome.

Of course, being able to do it direct would be even better; eg CELL("Filename_short").

…. it's even worse when the links are in Named Ranges because <Ctrl><F> won't find them. You have to check the Name Manager every time.

Totally agree... even if Excel only told you the reference of one linked cell in each group it would help with resolution... but a full list would be perfect.

Currently, one has to either break the links blindly or hunt all over the workbook using <Ctrl><F>.

Can't you just use <Ctrl><Shift><Down> to select the whole column???

… or is it <Ctrl><Shift><PageDown> … ? … my keyboard uses the same key for both of these.

            Either way, this works fine.

I think this idea is good and MS should look at it.

Argh! I should have written: "I want to identify the final '\' so that I can extract just the file name"
