Thanks for the support and the detailed discussion around this suggestion. We understand that there are some advantages and disadvantages with both MDI (multi-document interface) and SDI (single-document interface), and we currently do not have plans to revert to MDI. We do want to improve the experience with SDI so you can get your work done efficiently, and this post has helped toward that goal.

Some of the specific issues mentioned are addressed as follows:
    – Stability: This has been a focus over the past several years, and the monthly releases in 2020 have been among the most reliable ever in terms of avoiding crashes.
    - Screen space – while it won’t get all the space back, you can minimize the ribbon to save some space. It only shows when needed.
    - Navigation between workbooks: you can use CTRL+F6, SHIFT+CTRL+F6, CTRL+TAB or SHIFT+CTRL+TAB to switch to the next workbook. …

Thanks everyone for all of the passion about this suggestion! The number of votes has increased greatly in the last couple months and we’re taking notice! We’ve got a bunch of other Excel endpoints behaving this way already and we’re evaluating getting it done in the Windows versions sooner based on the number of votes it gets – so keep the votes coming!

You have to wonder if the issues raised on this 'uservoice' forum get taken notice of at or is it just a mechanism to channel the grievances of Microsoft users somewhere away from the public.
If someone from Microsoft responds, its usually about once per year.
If Microsoft were taking these suggestions seriously, they would have a full time administrator who coordinates between the dev team and the end users.

To Everyone: do yourselves a favour and try Google Sheets. They have left out or fixed all the Microsoft ********, and there are plugins to do everything.

This might sound petty, but our organisation just dumped O365 and moved to Gsuite just because of this issue.
Our service desk was having at least 2 or 3 complains a week about this functionality and it was a serious problem, to the point people were almost unable to work.

Extremely annoying to set one colour on the desktop version and not be able to set the same colour in the online version. I end up with spreadsheets with a mismatch of colours which should be the same.

Joe - I use Google sheets for all my eBay work. MS is useless

Regarding the person's example below trying to manage building room information, I had the same issue. I think you will find if you right click - formatting, you should be able to over come this.

Thanks for your feedback! We’re reviewing your suggestion. I would like to clarify: If sharing through SP the URL parameters are hashed. When a user edit an Excel file and copy the URL for sharing over email the user can choose to change the action to edit.
Remember, the more votes a suggestion gets, the more likely it is that we’ll do it.

    Hi all,

We have been working on this, and wanted to get your feedback on how you see this feature fitting into your workflow. We have a quick one question survey for you to give us your thoughts on the look and keyboard shortcuts we have at this time. Please see here for more: aka.ms/datePickerSurvey

    Thanks!

Thanks very much for your votes. And to those who took the time to fill in the survey, thank you! This is a brief update to let y’all know that we’ve started work on this feature request along with the one on changing numbers to scientific notation.
