Update – thanks for the continued support of this feature. We’ll keep this request open for voting, but we’ll need to consider modifying the behavior slightly if it is to be brought back. For this suggestion, we would want to enable such behavior on both Mac and Windows, but we would need to do it in a way that does not cause problems for people who don’t want this behavior. For example, it may be that you would type =, then hold the CMD key as you click the cells to be added. Or perhaps you would need to enable a preference to get the old behavior. Please comment on these options or offer other ideas.

We’ve been working to make Excel more consistent between Mac and Windows, as can be seen by the updates over the past several months, which have satisfied several thousand votes on this forum (multi-thread…

SF commented that one can just hold down both Control and Command to sum cells, but this does not work (on my Mac, at least). Doing that just puts commas between the cell references, not + signs as desired.
Microsoft, PLEASE make this a user preference!! You've seen that hundreds of people are asking for this functionality back, so what's wrong with giving the user the option to turn this back on? Why the delay in implementing this??

Steve, I would prefer a preference item for this. I liked just typing "=" then click, click, click to automatically insert plus signs between cell references. I sometimes use SUM or SUBTOTAL, but for simple stuff, I prefer "=e16+f17+g20"

Please let the user decide what format to assign to a cell, instead assuming *anything* that looks even close to a date needs to be formatted as a date. You have gotten yourselves into more trouble by trying to assume what the user wants, rather than giving the user the ability to make their own choice or specify the preferences they want.

Thanks for the suggestion and for the support of this feature. If you meant to vote for the Data Form, which is different than VBA UserForms, please change your vote to that suggestion instead. From reading the comments on this one, it seems that some clarification was needed.

I updated the title and description for this one and we’ll continue to monitor for comments and votes.

Here’s the link to the Data Form suggestion – https://excel.uservoice.com/forums/304933-excel-for-mac/suggestions/17930662-restore-data-form-functionality

Hi All – We are working to add the formatting capabilities for the new chart types. We’re hoping to release the update for this in June 2018.

We recognize there are currently some limitations with how you can use the chart types that have only recently been available in Excel for Mac, especially Histogram, and we are working hard to complete these.

Thanks for the suggestion, comments and votes for following OS X standards for menus and title bars. Some aspects mentioned here have been addressed, such as switching windows within Excel by pressing CMD+` (key that has ~ on it). We will continue to monitor votes and comments to prioritize accordingly with other suggestions here.
