We’ll send you updates on this idea

Hi All, We apologize for being slow to engage on this thread. We are listening to your feedback and we really do care. After reading the comments here as well as the feedback sent from within Excel, we have decided to remove the lock icon from Excel on Windows for the timebeing. Since it’s not new to the other platforms (web, Mac and mobile) and we haven’t had similar feedback about it there, we won’t change those for now. We’ll consider how best to get consistency across the desktop, web, and mobile apps, and we’ll share updates if we have any additional next steps.

Since the lock icon was added recently, we can turn it off by using a configuration in O365, so you should notice that the change soon, without having to install an update. Just make sure to restart Excel.

    Thanks for all your feedback.

    Steve [Microsoft Excel]

The problem is not related to Add Ins only, but with any macros contained in the Files. As lots of companies have some macros to perform some action (not always through add-ins), the result is the owner/autor (and sometimes everyone else) disabling IRM so that the file can be used by other colleagues, making all the system less secure, which is the opposite of the IRM purpose.

If you usually work on your own workbooks, add Paste Values and Paste Formulas to the Quick Access Toolbar. This way one can paste as whish with a single Click. (best option I found).

On the other hand... if you develop Workbooks for others to use, then the default in any protected sheet should be paste as Formulas. Much more usefull than adding a lock to the Tab Sheet Name, as MS did recently on latest updates (why?). There simply is no practical way to avoid your users to F-up the cell formats, and you cannot "educate" them all to not use CTRL-V.

This thread is running for almost 5 years and MS doesn't seem to listen. There are many others threads with different suggestions, but the underlying problem is the same.
Excel is a great tool. Please MS listen to your users and developpers.

Agree to set the Default @Sheet level. At least for protected sheets.
Don't understand why this needed feature takes so long to be implemented.

Thanks for the feedback! We’re seeing a number of different posts about lookup functions – we’ll be taking a close look at this area and thinking it through. We’ll prioritize the asks according to votes along with other requests on the site. So I encourage people to keep voting if it’s something they really want to see the priority raised on.

    Best,
    John [MS XL]

Thank you for taking the time to share your request for linking min/max values of a chart axis to the cell value! We think this suggestion has merit; however, we don’t expect to devote time to it in the near future. We will continue tracking votes and comments here, and will keep this suggestion under consideration for future development.

Thank you again, and please keep sharing your thoughts!

Hi – due to concerns expressed by people who did not like the way the lock symbol was added to protected sheets, we will stop showing it on sheet tabs in Excel for Windows for the time-being. We may bring it back in the future in some other fashion.

If you’d like to see a lock symbol or some other visual indicator when a sheet is protected, please add your vote and comment here.

    Here’s the related discussion – https://excel.uservoice.com/forums/304921/suggestions/40858108

Many Thanks – Steve [Microsoft Excel]

Microsoft reasoning is really amazing. A Suggestion with a couple of votes is implemented, while others with hundreds or thousands of votes are simply ignored for years. Of course if somebody likes this, or really wants this, I don't see any problem to have this as an OPTION.
But Imposing this to the millions who don't need it, and don't want it, having impact on millions of running applications is ... really stupid. Its like setting the default Cell format to currency for everybody around the world.
MS: Please make this an OPTION, not at the application level, but at Workbook level, and keep the default as before.

Please allow an AutoComplete option for in cell drop down, in data validation (Allow-List).
It would be extremely friendly for users when we have long validation lists, such as 240 country names or alike.

This is an interesting idea. We will definitely consider it while planning our next round of features. Please continue to vote on this feature idea.

Good news. We are in the planning stages for improving the Unhide Sheet dialog box so that you can select multiple sheets and unhide them at the same time.

    Thanks for supporting this suggestion.

Thanks for supporting this feature. We won’t be able to in the near future, but we understand that it would be a nice improvement. Even though it seems like a straightforward idea, it is quite complex since named ranges can be dynamic, meaning that the range is calculated when the workbook is calculated.

We’ll continue tracking votes for this suggestion.

Finding and fixing external links (i.e. links to other workbook) is almost a Sherlock Holmes investigation, namely because these may be "hidden" in data validations or conditional formatting, This may happen as a result of a simple copy/paste sequence between workbooks.

Why not adding an "External links" option to the Find & Select menu , which should identify the cells searching in formulas, but also in validations, formatting, defined names etc..

We can't figure out any logical reason for Autofit not working with some merged cells. Seems that this case was simply forgotten when Autofit was programmed.
    OK. But Please fix it!

This feature could be very very useful. But as it is now it's very seldom used, because it doesn't work as it should and reverts row height to 1 single row. (why 1 row??).

Great suggestion – thanks again for taking the time to put it on this site and for the thoughtful followup comments. This is pretty related to some other work we’ve got going and already has a fair number of votes, so we’ll work on getting plans in place now and hope to get started on this soon.

    Thanks,
    John [MS XL]

    Good!!

Why not adding an "external links" option to the goto special menu?
