Agree absolutely. In another post I have reported this glitch. The autosave NEVER results in reopening a recovered file when Excel crashes (several times a day on my case).

The whole COPY-PASTE thing in EXCEL 2016 for MAC does not function correctly. Copying a table of data and pasting it as a PDF in a WORD document or Powerpoint presentation is an ESSENTIAL feature if Office is truly an integrated system. This method of copying and pasting ensures the incorporation high resolution graphics into a report or other important document. However, after many years of being able to do this with earlier versions, the feature does not work in the latest EXCEL 2016. “Pasting as PDF” results in the loss of formats and other glitches. My only solution is to open files in my old Office 2008 and perform this ESSENTIAL function using the old software. Of course, this is crazy. Please look into fixing this.

OK. In the updated version 15.32, the Break Link command does not cause a crash but the problem is it doesn't do anything. ie. the links are not broken. This has to be fixed!!

Further to my opening post, I have just got off the phone with Microsoft Office support. A Level 2 person said that Excel and WORD are now coded differently so that Pasting as PDF will not retain the formatting. Surely this cannot be so!!!! Pasting as PDF is such a basic and fundamental operation that should allow interchange of information and images between all of the Office programs.

I want to add another comment to stress an important point made by the previous (Anonymous) commenter. The issue of always being prompted to save a file even if no changes have been made to a file is very important with respect to preserving the file's time stamp. As Anonymous points out, in many situations when 2 or 3 or more files are open, one cannot always remember if changes have been made to a file. Being forced to save a file because of uncertainty is very annoying and counter productive especially if preserving the time stamp is important.

I absolutely agree with this request. It becomes really tiresome to have to double up mouse clicks/keystrokes if one is needing to look at a number of files for reference only and not make changes. I have to say that doubling up on mouse clicks/keystrokes seems to be a really annoying trend in the latest 2016 version of Excel.

I have the same issue (and in WORD). I have my name in PREFERENCES-GENERAL-User Name and my name also shows up in FILE-PROPERTIES-SUMMARY, but "Microsoft Office User" is the name in ant Comment.
