    YES! This is most annoying/aggravating. WHY did you have to change the way that this has worked for decades????? Please find the blithering idiot who changed this and take away their tinker toys.

    Thanks for all your support of this request. We are taking a close look at this along with the related requests about maintaining leading zeros when entering values in cells, and to stop changing values to scientific notation.

    We know these are important issues, so thanks for all the comments and votes.

    @Futski: Homogenous rows or columns may be good for you, but probably not for most of us. Data is usually numbers and headings for the row/column are usually text. All text or all numerals is not a good default.

    I would be grateful if Excel would allow me to type in '3-11' without automatically converting it to 'March 11, 2021'. Re-formatting that every time is a PITA!

    This feature was available as recently as Excel 2003, which I still have loaded on an old desktop PC. I believe that it went all the way back to Lotus 123. We wouldn't need this feature if all data were limited to a screen's worth, but we have come a long way from the upper limit of 256 rows.

    Why has MS decided to delete some features? What will be next?
