Excellent idea Charles and I have tested your own functions that you have already written which work perfectly.
However, I think it would be even more useful if there was a way to pass an optional array to the function to excluded certain columns otherwise you end up summing dates and unit prices etc., which is neither use to man nor beast.
e.g. =SUMCOLS(E7#,{1:6,9}) which would exclude summing the first 6 columns and the 9th for example. -

Wow.
Thank you to all those participated in our survey. What an amazing number of responses, many of them with very deep content. We’re processing the over ten thousand responses(!), and already appreciate the time so many of you took to answer with passion and experience.
Please know this survey is used to help influence various topics – both on Python as well as other related topics that the comments started to bleed into. Given the passion, I want to be clear this remains an area of exploration for us, without any specific timeline.
We’ll provide updates as we progress on this feature request.
Thanks!

Huge progress update toward historical data! We have released our preview of the StockHistory function! https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/stockhistory-function-1ac8b5b3-5f62-4d94-8ab8-7504ec7239a8
However, this is only available to our Beta Channel at the moment, so when it is rolled out to General Availability, I will be sure to update the status to completed.
If you are able to use the feature in preview and have feedback, please send-a-frown for us to review.

Just used my last vote on this.
Equally, if there is a Total row in a table, it has to be removed before entering more data else the table will not automatically expand.
I have made the suggestion before to Microsoft to have a switch allowing Totals to be placed above the header row ( a much more logical place as Totals would always be in view), if required, and then table extension would happen automatically.Roger Govier supported this idea ·

I'm out of votes but agree completely with Doug on this.
