If you format your data range as a table, then when you ad data to it, the table is automaticly expanded. Hence also the data for your pivot.
I do however use both methods from time to time, data tables and dynamicly named ranges.

You can link a slicer to multiple pivots.

For the spacing you need to set the parameter within the pivot option to not update formating.

For the conditional formatting issue you need to apply it with one last step to maintain the functionality. See this link http://www.k2e.com/tech-update/tips/159-applying-conditional-formatting-to-pivottables

Use 'save as' (F12). That is what it is there for.
                                Ctrl-S is used afterwards.

If only it kept the different instances from taking down each other, but it doesn't.
I do believe that was one of the points of making it like this.

In the pivot table options, there is a fan called 'data'.
In that fan there is a paramter called 'save source data with file'.
Unticking that, seems to me, must be your solution. At least short term.

I have no problem with copying values and then formats in the newest release of excel or excel 2010.

I think you could copy the pivot, then paste first values and then formats at a place of your choice. I do that frequently.

In 2013/2016 you can right click a value field and choose "show values as" or "summarize values as".
