Allow unlock of a password protected Excel worksheet while using my Android OS cell phone
Please allow unlock of a password protected Excel worksheet while using my Android OS cell phone.
It is frustrating to me that this is such a problem for Microsoft to anticipate and provide coding for creating and /or unlocking password protected files on Android mobile phones. I purchased Office 365 unaware of this flaw in MS-Excel.
What this means is that I have to have WPS Office third party app also installed so that I can access these password protected files. But it also means that I may not edit files on my Android phone and have them instantly available on my PC. I have to do all my editing on my PC only; without the cross compatibility that I have with unprotected Excel files. This is nuts! Why should I have to install 2 office suites just to access one niggling aspect that Microsoft Office 365 programmers refuse to address?
If there is an overriding reason that this cannot or may not be done, please share why this is so with the Microsoft community as well as in your published literature; visa vie the Microsoft advertisement for excel "Work from wherever, your files are synced. Get the excel app on your Android phone or Tablet!"
As of now it seems that Microsoft does not care. I know that statement is not true, but I have called Microsoft tech support and emailed Microsoft on this issue for nearly a year and gotten no satisfactory answer; nor have I found any published article stating why this aspect of Microsoft Excel is not supported.
Forgive me but I have only just this morning found this link to express my need and suggestion. Good to know! Thank you for your time and efforts to make MS Office 365 such a great product. Well done!
Good news – Excel for Android now supports opening files that are password protected. If you haven’t yet, please update to build 16.0.7030.1014 or later to get this functionality.
Love that we did this? Let us know!

The current version of Android Excel (16.0.11001.20074) does not allow opening of password protected xlsx workbooks. Has the functionality been inadvertantly or deliberately removed?
I am looking for the same, I use an XLSX file with one worksheet per vendor required edi config setup. I SaveAs to a file being sent to the client, containing just one tab for their specifc vendor setup needed at the time. I need both the ability to unlock a protected sheet (not password protected however), and save a specific tab from the larger template file. I need the ability to quickly lock and unlock individual tabs. As it stands the most logical place for such a control would be done via a long press on the small padlock icon on the bottom tab, along with the same controls for Share, Rename, Color, Delete, etc. For the security minds, that Unlock option could prompt user to input their O365 password.
Make my dream of working from my summertime deck on my tablet come true! :)
I tried using Excel on my Android phone. I can open password protected workbooks, but cannot unprotect specific protected worksheets. I've spent hours trying to find the solution, but it appears that functionality doesn't exist. Why is this so hard?
I also facing the same problem, I have some files in the google drive. I used to edit in those files in the mobile as well as in my PC also. the problem is, If, I use the WPS or Microsoft Excel apps to edit these files from Gdrive this will not save the file in the same file. this will create another file like save as. in other hand, I tried with the Google Sheet, this can save the file properly but cannot open the password protected file in the mobile.
I am developing a workbook for multiple users, and NEED to have functionality that allows for the protection of the entire workbook, specifically the cells that do calculating and the cells that are labels. I also need to allwo the user to be able to enter data in specific cells ONLY. This spreadsheet is being developed on an Android tablet, and the users will all be using tablets as well. Please implement such functionality?
