We have enabled workbooks on Android that contain Form Controls (and ActiveX controls) to open on the device and show a placeholder where the Form/ActiveX control exists in the workbook. While those controls will be shown as placeholders, they will roundtrip correctly so that you can edit the rest of your workbook (unlike today where we block display of the workbook).

  2. Add a number keypad for inputting data

When inputting numerical data. A virtual persistent 10 key pad that stays visible on screen until turned off would be good.

  3. Implementing a way to open files with graphics into Headers and Footlines

It would be very nice / helpfull if you had the possibility to open Excel files which have graphical content in it's Headers and/or Footlines.

This often occurs in our company, because some employes are using Desktops / Notebooks and others are just Using Android Tablets.

At the moment it's pretty annoying for some of them if they try to share Excel files, because there is no really good way to work together on excel files.

    Hello,

This work has been completed, and you can get the update from the Play store now. Builds 16.0.7426.1015 and later should contain the ability to open files that have images in headers/footers.

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

    Hi all,

Just wanted to give the good news that we’ve started work on this idea, and we expect to have it wrapped up in the near future, so that images/pictures/graphics in Headers and Footers will be supported in Excel for Android (you’ll be able to open files with them, but you won’t be able to edit the headers/footers yet).

Will let everyone know when the feature is done.

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

  4. Allow unlock of a password protected Excel worksheet while using my Android OS cell phone

Please allow unlock of a password protected Excel worksheet while using my Android OS cell phone.

It is frustrating to me that this is such a problem for Microsoft to anticipate and provide coding for creating and /or unlocking password protected files on Android mobile phones. I purchased Office 365 unaware of this flaw in MS-Excel.

What this means is that I have to have WPS Office third party app also installed so that I can access these password protected files. But it also means that I may not edit files on my Android phone and have them instantly available…

    Greetings,

Good news – Excel for Android now supports opening files that are password protected. If you haven’t yet, please update to build 16.0.7030.1014 or later to get this functionality.

Love that we did this? Let us know!

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

    Hi all,

Opening password protected files with Excel works now for certain files (XLSX, XLSM, and XLSB files) and we are working on support for password protected XLS files. Stay tuned here for more updates

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

  5. Ability to see row height/column width in pixels like it does on the Desktop versions

It would be ideal to see how wide the rows/columns are so it would be easier to set more columns to the same dimensions.

    Good afternoon,

As of build 16.0.7531.1011 (which you can download from the Play store), it’s now possible to see the row/column height in pixels in Excel for Android.

    Good morning,

Just wanted to drop in and give some good news here – we’ve started working on this feature, and expect to ship it in Excel for Android soon (in the next couple months baring any unforeseen delays).

Will update this status when we’re done.

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

    Hello again,

Just wanted to let everyone know that as of build 16.0.6828.1014 (available in the play store starting yesterday), Excel for Android now supports opening CSV files.

    Enjoy!
    Dan [MS]

Good news – we’re working on the ability to open CSV files using Excel.

    Cheers,

  7. Apple PENCIL should NOT automatically start "drawing mode" in Excel (and Word)

The Apple PENCIL is NOT ONLY a drawing tool!
Like in many other apps it should also be possibe to use it as a (more precise!) substitute for the finger!
For example in Apples notes app, you can perfectly and very precisely use the pencil to move the coursor, to select text and to start actions by tapping a button.
All this should be possible in Excel (and Word) too!!!
(Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, ...)

    Hi,

We’ve added a feature to “Share as PDF” which will generate a PDF of your workbook that you can save or share with others. This was pushed to the Play store on 3/30/2016, so any updates you install after that should have this feature.

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

  9. Apple Pencil should not draw in excel by default

Apple Pencil should not draw by default. This is an awful programming miss that should have been caught during QA. Who wants to use their fingers in Excel for IPad if you have an Apple Pencil.

Great news – we’ve completed the ability to use a stylus to ink and collect signatures (or otherwise draw on your spreadsheets) for Excel for Android. It should be available in version 16.0.7030.1014 and later, so update from the store if you haven’t already!

If you are happy we addressed this idea, let us know!

  12. Implement auto fill/fill handle!

In android it isn't possible to 'drag' a formula/set of values across cells - this is a key spreadsheet feature has been in Windows for 20 years or more (select corner of cell until + appears then drag)

E.g. if I have 1,2,3 in consecutive cells I should be able to drag and get 4,5,6 in the next cells

Without this it is pretty painful to use formulas at all.

  14. Add the option to copy cells as an image.

Before the update today (April 11, 2017), when I copied a group of cells, it would automatically paste them into messenger on my iPad as an image. Today's update now paste that same group of cells as an unformatted conglomeration of ****. It is really terrible. By doing away with the copy as image function, I've now added an hour and a half to my workday. Everyday...

  16. Support Auto-complete in Android

Auto-complete is supported in the desktop app, but is missing from Android. When I'm working out, I enter all of my exercises, reps, and weight into excel so that I can track my progress. Not having auto-complete means that I have to type in the full name of the exercise each time, which is frustrating and takes time away from exercising.

Great news. If you have build 16.0.7426.1015 or later, you have the ability to co-author with others on files that are stored in O365 or OneDrive.com (you can both edit at the same time and not lock each other out of the workbook)

    Enjoy!

  19. Please don't have Excel open up a spreadsheet in drawing mode!

Excel for Android opens up both of my two spreadsheets in drawing mode(!!!) and instead of entering text or numbers I'm entering little tiny periods or lines and then I have to undo them and change to home mode. What a pain in the you-know-where.

    Hi David,

If you’re using an Android Phone, then we’ve already made a fix for this issue (so your stylus is used as a pointer by default)

The build is still in the process of rolling out, but once you update to 16.0.7301.1004 or later, you should go back to your old stylus behavior on your phone.

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

PS – the stylus still defaults to drawing on tablet devices.

  20. Add ability to export to other formats, such as .ods

Field offices are (unfortunately) set up on using OpenOffice which often can't access or utilize Excel files. While export is available in the desktop version, it would be great to have the export feature for Android so that the files can be distributed on the go rather than waiting until one has access to a desktop unit.

    Good news,

We’ve implemented this idea. Starting with version 16.0.7030.1014 (and later versions), you can save as ODS format.

To do so, tap on the Hamburger > Save > Export this file to ODS.

(Note: this is bit of a strange location for this functionality, and we may move it to Save As or Export in the future, so if you’re reading this status and don’t find the export functionality under “Save,” please look elsewhere.)

Love that we did this? Let us know!

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]
