  1. Password protection of spreadsheet

I just posted this question to Microsoft forums and found out that this feature is still not functional in Excel for iOS:
I'm using Excel on an iPad Pro and would just tried to find a way to password protect a spreadsheet I'm saving to OneDrive. Searching the general web and these forums didn't readily surface an answer. I've seen old responses indicating that it wasn't possible to password protect a single sheet in 2014; however, I'd be surprised if it's not even possible to password protect an entire spreadsheet in the latest version of Excel for iOS.

  2. It should be possible to pin spreadsheets to the home screen

T should be possible to in frequently accessed spreadsheets to the home screen so they can be opened with one tap. This would be similar to. How you can add frequently used web pages from safari.

  4. Ability to Print and export PDF while offline

Microsoft online services seem to be a requirement since 2.0 and the on/off selection in settings does nothing.

Exporting PDFs and sharing them while offline is crucial, and previous versions had no problems with this at all.

  5. XLT Files Don't Appear in Cloud Browsers

XLT and files with related extensions (like XLTX) don't appear in the cloud service browsers like Egnyte and Box, which is very frustrating. Is there an official way of getting to and opening these files?

  6. Shared login with Outlook

With the iOS office suite I am required to login to each app separately, which can be quite frustrating when my password changes and I re-login to each app separately.

Apps made by other vendors (such as Google) allow shared account login accross all of it's apps where I only need to login once and all the apps just work.

  7. XLS Files opened on iPad should be exportable to CSV format

Believe it or not, some companies are attempting to standardize on Apple iPads as the business tool for their external employees. I'm working with a company that has $45Billion+ in sales; 155,000 Employees.

I work for a technology company with $800Million in sales and 3,000 employees.

One application would be optimally serviced by the ability to open an Excel file, with drop down lists, on an Apple iPad and once the file data is customized by the remote employee, I would need to have them save the edited file to a .CSV file to import into a webpage that has…

  8. Opening Excel file from other app should not be read only

When I open an Excel file into the Excel app from an email, I want to be able to edit it before deciding whether to save it or not. Excel always open files from other apps as read only, so I have to make a local or cloud copy to do anything. This is annoying as it will take up space with Excel files that I may never use again.

Another example, is that I may want to open an Excel file from an email, make a few edits and email it back without saving it locally.

  9. The new Box integration is prone to lose data in an online/offline scenario.

Previously, I used the Box sync tool and chose which folders I wanted to have sync'ed locally. That worked great! As it is now, the MS Office app gets confused and is prone to lose locally made changes that were made offline.

  10. Ability to open any file, even if not editable

Just as the iOS version, all files can be opened, not all can be edited or all functions are available. However, all can be opened.

    HI Scott,

We’re working on loading more files. Can you add some more detail about what specific issue you’re running into here, so we can prioritize it appropriately?

    Thanks,
    Dan [MS]

  11. Add "open in" functionality

Add "Open In" functionality to Excel for iOS (and Word and PowerPoint). This would allow the user to open an Excel file in other applications.

  12. Have offline access to selected files from cloud services

An option to have selected files from cloud services within the app (OneDrive and Dropbox hopefully). When a file is marked to be available offline, it should be downloaded, auto-synced as changes occur for it, and be available when I do not have an Internet connection. Also it should not download every time I open it. When I work on it without Internet connection, it should save changes waiting for a next connection to sync changes to the cloud.

This user experience is very vital and essential.

  13. Add support for custom templates in Office Mobile apps, specifically Excel and Word.

It would be most useful to be able to create new documents from custom templates in Excel and Word on mobile devices.

    Hi all,

We’ve begun work on the ability to open (and create new files from) Templates on Excel for Android.

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]
