Please enable the font smoothing on Mac Book pro (not retina display).
The fonts look horrible on non-retina displays.
Moreover, I read a lot of complaints about this missing feature.
Another update – This is done and the fix was released in the Nov update (15.16). Thanks for your feedback!

Running Excel 2016 on Yosemite with an LG 34UM95-P and the fonts just look extremely ugly. Not a single other non-office app has this issue at native resolution 3440x1440 @60 Hz (hooked up to a Mac mini Late 2014 with Thunderbolt cable). Excel is completely unusable this way. I am using LibreOffice Calc until this issue is solved.
Agreed. Fonts are horrible. Cannot work with large data tables.

I too have switched back to the 2011 version of Excel for this. It's clearly a bug and am looking forward to when you do get around to fixing it.
i fully agree, it is really bad, come on MS fix this pls
There is a new update for Excel but the problem has not been fixed. I am disappointed.
It's awful on non-retina. I am going to reinstall 2011 because it's pretty much unusable right now.

Got to agree – there's something horribly wrong with the text in the spreadsheet; it's blocky, and very hard to work with. Text in the menus and ribbon is fine. Side-by-side display of 2011 and 2016 spreadsheets shows this clearly. I've had to revert to 2011.
Things are fine on a Retina display however.
