Please enable the font smoothing on Mac Book pro (not retina display).
The fonts look horrible on non-retina displays.
Moreover, I read a lot of complaints about this missing feature.
Another update – This is done and the fix was released in the Nov update (15.16). Thanks for your feedback!

I just got a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) and the font in Excel is terrrrrible!! Please fix this soon! Crazy this is even an issue.

Well the reason must be that MS wants us to buy Windows machines …
This really needs to be fixed.... unusable for me....

Hurts my eyes when hooked up to a monitor, very off putting and will likely go back to 2011 if this isn't fixed.
Please fix asap - same problem - excel font unusable. Reinstalled 2011. Very shoddy - when will fix be ready???

Looks horrible on a 27" monitor. I have started converting everything to Pages so that it looks good on my monitor.
Having the same issue. Very difficult to see.
+1 for me, looks blurry on the bigger screen.

I don't usually care about fonts, but this is so bad as to be unusable.
I'm using a retina mid-2014 MBP with two Dell 24" U2412M external displays connected via thunderbolt to display port cables -- fonts are awful in Excel on external displays, but fine on the MBP.

I agree. Pretty ugly.
Problem still exists in version 15.14! Crazy Microsoft- we're livin in 2015, not 1995!

Power Point has the same problem. Please also fix

Sorry Microsoft. This is not a suggestion or some kind of wish for a next version of your product. This a main issue, better to say a critical bug, which in my tiny universum as an it projects manager would be a blocker to release a software. This issue also happens to Word and Powerpoint when a Macbook is connected to an Apple LED Cinema Display.
Please fix this immediately. With the less eye-friendly display of characters I become more tired then with antialiased fonts. Also we are in 2015. Come on ;-)

Excel 15.14 and still bad. Will use Office 2011 until fixed.

Unusable. Back to 2011. No excuse for such shoddy QA.
I have a macbook air and just downloaded 2016 office for mac through my office 365 subscription. Very disappointed with the pixelated look of the text in Excel. Stranger though is that if the cell is active (double click to add more text), the font for that one cell looks perfect until you hit enter and it turns pixelated again.
I just installed Mac Office 2016 for the first time today (9/22/2015), and immediately ran into this font display problem with Excel 2016. Unbelievable! -- I thought I had waited long enough before installing the new version for something this egregious to be fixed.
Fonts looks fine on my MacBook Pro retina display, but terrible on the external non-retina display.
I will now be uninstalling Office 2016 until this is fixed -- this bug makes it practically unusable for me.
Thank you guys, fonts look normal now :)
