Make Name Manager Mac = Name Manager Windows
Where has the Name Manager for Mac (Excel 2016) gone? I have imported work done earlier on a Windows platform and now need to work with the named ranges...but cannot find a way to access the Name Manager. The suggestion I find on the web to push command +fn + F3 does not work.
The Define name dialog box available in excel for MAC is very limiting. From small things like it not being re-sizeable, resulting in the list of defined names displayed being truncated, to large more impactful things like not showing the results of the named range (field value, or formula results) which limits ones ability to validate the named range. It's remedial and ineffective. For people who have used the Windows version with a full more robust name manager this is a huge step backwards ! It makes me regret lobbying at work to get a MAC to replace my PC.
I would think it would be in Microsoft's best interest to have more business people WANT to use a MAC at work, However, when the Office 365 suite of tools (a suite that is pervasive in all major companies) has significant gaps in functionality on the MAC version, you are shooting yourselves in the perverbial foot.
even Google Sheets puts Excel for Mac to shame when it comes to Named Range management
Yes, we would like the ability to define scope at global and local levels of named ranges, like you can already do on Windows Excel.
Command +F3 (or Command+fn+F3 depening in how yr keyboard is setup) opens the Define Name dialogue box, in the same way as Menu: Insert / Name / Define Name.
However the Define Name dialogue box does not have the same functionality as the Name Manager. It does not perform intelligent editing of the names of named areas.
