How can we improve Excel for Mac?

expand the formular bar

I don't like to edit in-cell, but prefer to edit in the formula bar. Some cells have a lot of content which wraps onto multiple lines. I need to manually expand the formula bar in order to see the entire content. It would be nice if the "edit cell" keystroke (F2 or Ctrl-U) would automatically expand the formula bar as needed to show the content if it is collapsed and then re-collapse it (if it was auto-expanded) after pressing Enter (to commit the formula). I seem to remember behavior similar to this on an old version of Excel (Office 2004, and some early versions for Windows). But even if I'm mis-remembering, I think it would be a very useful feature.
