How can we improve Excel for Mac?

Add recent Excel Windows functions to Mac version

A bunch of great new functions just went into the Windows version of Excel: https://blogs.office.com/2016/02/23/6-new-excel-functions-that-simplify-your-formula-editing-experience/

Please add them to the Mac version ASAP!

IFS does not work on Office 365 for Mac (on iMac), but on my Win10 laptop! That is truly annoying!!!

I find it ridiculous that there are differences between platform versions. Surely this just pushes more and more users towards other software vendors.
This has my vote. More importantly, just keep the platform variations the same, especially for the function library.

how can you have COUNTIFS, AVERAGEIFS, SUMIFS, and not IFS? Makes no sense. It seems to be there when I use the online version, but not on my Mac.
This kind of compatibility issue is ridiculous. It's 2017!
Please get all of these functions MIN, MAX, etc. added back on your next release/fix/update.

  • Rick Garbacik commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Please add all the new functions for mac. Our company has macs and p's, and the IFS function works perfectly on windows, but returns all errors on mac. The two versions must be equal.

March 14, 2017, there is a patch for Excel on the Mac. I hold my breath, hoping against hope for switch statements. What's the changelist?

"The most relevant commands to what you're working on are at your fingertips. (Compatible with MacBook Pro with Touch Bar only.)"

Unless the most relevant commands are Switch, IFS. Sigh.

Switch would be very helpful to me, this is the kind of thing I am currently working on using nested if-then statements:

Dan, any ETA on this? Just upgraded to 2016 in hopes of getting this functionality, six months on, still not available.

  • Sean Hyde-Moyer commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

This is true for the entire set of new functions available to PC Excel users: IFS, MAXIFS, MINIFS, and SWITCH functions.

The lack of compatibility is a big issue, as is the the inability to use these on Mac, full stop.

Google Sheets currently supports IFS and SWITCH, if folks need an immediate work around, and can deal with slower performance on large sheets.

  • Patrick Sullivan commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Excel for PC has a new function called =IFS. This function is missing from Excel for Mac 2016. This is a problem for Excel for Mac users as spreadsheets, created with Excel for PC, that use the =IFS function, do not work on a MAC.

  • James Spotanski (Microsoft Excel) commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Hi Dave and Tom - we're actively working on adding these to Excel for Mac and they'll be released as soon as they're ready. My personal hope is that this will be some time in the next few months.

    Thanks for the feedback!
    James

Very embarrassing that advanced Excel spreadsheets break when I share them with Mac users, four months after new function were added in Windows. Office 365 is understood by all to be a cross-platform solution.
