How can we improve Excel for Mac?

Open files with alternative extensions

I'd like to be able to open files with arbitrary file extensions.

Many files I have or work with are tsv files, but don't always have that extension, and it's not even an option to open them in Excel!

It's madness that this has been removed. Excel for Mac 2016 is great to use, but then I discovered this critical feature missing :(

Really, really annoying. This is (was) a feature I use all the time. Not all files in the universe conform to Microsoft's blinkered view of proper extensions.

Why has this possibility been removed in Excel for Mac, while the current Windows version of Excel still does it right.
What is the difference between Windows and OS X when faced to the task of importing a text file?

Yeah, I can't believe that this was removed. Oddly though, its still possible to open files with arbitrary extensions using VBA. I have written a script to handle it for now.
