  1. Enable VBA Support for creating and editing UserForms (not the Data Form)

In previous versions of Mac Excel you could create a Form/Dialog using VBA (called a VBA UserForm). In Mac Excel 2016, you can no longer do this. Please bring that functionality back. Note that this is different than the "Form" option on the Data menu. There's a separate suggestion on UserVoice for that.

(March-2018: MS updated the Title and Description to avoid confusion with the Data Form request)

Thanks for the suggestion and for the support of this feature. If you meant to vote for the Data Form, which is different than VBA UserForms, please change your vote to that suggestion instead. From reading the comments on this one, it seems that some clarification was needed.

I updated the title and description for this one and we’ll continue to monitor for comments and votes.

  3. Fix VBA recording issue

Something I came across - which I suspect has been documents elsewhere but I can't readily see it so here goes.

When recording a macro in excel for mac 2016 for some reason the action of opening a file does not get recorded. The recorder literally doesn't register that you have opened the file. (Its a very useful step to provide the full syntax for the file path of the relevant file).

However when you close the file - that step is recorded as ActiveWorkbook.Close.

It took me a while to work out that the syntax from 2011 to 2016…

Thanks for reporting this issue, we are planning to address it, but in the meantime, you can do this with a command such as the following:

    Application.Workbooks.Open “/Users/user_name/Downloads/MyWorkbook.xlsx”

  4. Bring VBA on Excel for Mac to parity with Excel for Windows

Bring VBA on Excel for Mac to parity with Excel for Windows.
Currently, there are too many missing VBA elements missing. It is a major problem for those of us with mixed environments. Many things that worked under Excel 2011 no longer work in 2016.

Why is the not being addressed?

  5. Bring back all the macro features lost in 2011 and 2016

With 2011 and especially 2016 many of the vital functions in VBA recording and editing were lost making the writing of VBA macros impossible. User forms, debugging and relative referencing were three such features lost.

I used VBA to add features not available in Excel. As a transcriber of old church records I enter a lot of pre 1900 dates. These must be in a special dd mmm yyyy format which used to be checked by macro. I also check other fields for CAPITALISATION and Proper Case. None of this is now possible.

The advanced issue of a new version…

  6. Solver in Excel for Mac gives wrong answers to problems with binary variables. I teach an optimization class where this is a big problem.

Solver in the latest version of Excel for Mac gives wrong answers to problems with binary variables. I am a professor and I teach an optimization class where this is a big problem. Running Solver in the attached file (and many others) generates wrong answers in the latest Excel for Mac. It works fine in other versions of Excel, including Excel for Mac 2011.

  7. Could you please document/explain the differences in form control/VBA usage in Office 2016 for Mac?

I'm building an Excel spreadsheet tool that I would like to be compatible across different versions of Office. It's not terribly complicated; just a few sheets and buttons that allow you to manage data & do some basic analysis. I was able to make it completely compatible with Excel 2011 for Mac by using only form controls and by getting rid of any "Missing" references in the VBA editor, but in Office 2016, I get errors trying to set the value of a drop-down/combobox using .ControlFormat.ListIndex or .ControlFormat.Value. Both versions work fine in Excel 2010 & 2013 for Windows and…

  8. vba ODBC connection

ActiveWorkbook.Connections("ConnectionName").ODBCConnection is broken. Please fix this single command. It is a blocking issue. All other ODBC commands are working as expected. Please fix this one so everything is working. Thanks

  9. Excel for Mac 2016 does not open xlsm files from Excel for Windows !

Excel for Mac version 16.15 does not open xlsm files from Excel for Windows !

Excel has a very serious error:
Do not open the xlsm files maked with Excel for Windows, please correct it... !!!

I have tried it with all my previous excel macros files and in all it sends me a message of ERROR, when accepting that, Excel proceeds to repair it deletes all the macros that you have programmed in VBA !!!

What kind of error is that ???

PLEASE CORRECT THAT HORROR !!!! ...

  10. Allow Userforms that are modeless

Allow Excel for Mac to support Userforms that are modeless, so that the Userform will not interrupt editing of the worksheet while the user form is shown.

  11. Allow Excel for Mac to run .xll files

There are many .xll add-ins that work under windows, but none of these can be run natively on Excel for Mac. Using a windows emulator is painful, buggy and sometimes slow.

  12. Fix ExportAsFixedFormat method

    ExportAsFixedFormat method produces a "Run-time error '1004':

Application-defined or object-defined error" when trying to save (export) a pdf to a user folder (/Users/user/Documents for example)

As I see it only works if one saves to the sandbox path of Office (Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office), which is quite uncomfortable to work with.

  14. Full implementation of the Application.MacroOptions

The "Application.MacroOptions" as described but the Microsoft documentation https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff838997.aspx does not appear to be fully implemented for Excel 2016 MAC. The argument "ArgumentDescription" that is described in the Excel VBA reference causes a compile error to be raised. How about full implementation of the Application.MacroOptions.

  17. Bring back Window.Top

In Excel 2016, it is not possible to set the top position of an Excel window, neither with the VBA call 'ActiveWindow.Top = 100' nor with the AppleScript call 'set top of window 1 to 100'. This was no problem in Excel 2011. Please bring back this functionality.

  18. Enable My Apps in the Mac version.

Why can't I use My Apps in the Mac 2016 version. There's a lot of cool stuff going on in the My Apps section that i can't use on my Mac.

  19. Mouse cursor disappears after running a macro in Excel for Mac version 16.15

Need to fix a bug with mac Excel. After running a macro, the mouse cursor disappears. It reappears after typing in another program and coming back to Excel. This fix works sometimes but not all. This gets frustrating. The same macro runs fine in Windows Excel.

  20. Allow attaching symbols to quick-access toolbar buttons (as is the case in Excel for Windows)

For many years I had a customized set of buttons in the toolbar at the top of Excel spreadsheets. Some of these were standardized commands (splitting the worksheet); others were macros I had created. These sped up my work significantly. I had hoped to use the Quick Access Toolbar in Excel for Mac 2016 to recreate the most important of these. I can do this, but they all have the same button symbol!! Could you allow me to replace the buttons with symbols, as I could in Excel for Mac 2011 and apparently could if I used Excel 2016 for…
