  1. Intermittent problem with "Rows to repeat at the top" under Page Setup

I work on my Excel spreadsheets in Page Layout view and have being using the "rows to repeat at the top" command in Page Setup for years without any problem when using Office 2011. After switching to Office 365, I am now having intermittent problems with the cell reference on page 2 of a spreadsheet if I have used the "rows to repeat at the top" command. When I click on a cell on page 2, the cell reference intermittently goes out of sync with the cursor by the number of rows that I have repeated at the top of…

Thanks for your feedback. This issue has been fixed and will be available in the next monthly release of Excel for Mac. Once you have version 16.30 or greater, you should no longer have this issue. If you want to get the fix sooner, you can opt into the Insiders program and choose the Fast updates. To do so, just go to Help > Check for Updates. Then check the box to join the Office Insider Program and choose Office Insider Fast. Then press Check for Updates and install version 16.30×.

  2. Allow switching between Light or Dark theme in Excel.

With the new Mohave MacOS update, the dark theme setting has become global which now impacts MS Excel for mac. With the dark theme turned on the colour scheme on excel looks horrible and is very harsh on the eye because of massively contrasting colours. See ribbon screenshot attached, the colours stand out. If you have a sheet which has been colour coded to explain things, visually the sheet stands out and is very harsh on the eyes.

There should be an option within Excel to switch back to the "Light" theme, but for people who like the dark theme,…

  3. 'Select Objects'

How about giving the option 'select objects' for users to highlight which objects they want to delete? My only option on iMac is to press F5, special, then select objects which deletes all objects. Please address this issue as quickly as possible.

This is now available in the 16.24 update, which you can get if you opt into the Insiders Program, by going to Help > Check for Updates (not available if you installed from the Mac App Store). If you don’t want to opt into the Insiders program, this will be released in mid-April 2019.

To select objects, you can click the Find & Select button on the Home tab of the ribbon, and choose the Selection Pane… or Select Objects.

  4. Pls add draw or ink option on Excel for Mac

  5. Fix cell selection misalignment (likely out of memory) issues on High Sierra

I have High Sierra and Excel version 16.14.1. The issue I describe below has been there in Sierra, and prior versions of Excel - at least last 6 months.

Basically, sometimes after just a few new entries, sometimes after multiple entries, I'm unable to select and enter data/edit the cell I want. The cursor lands on another cell, typically one or two above.

The only way to recover is to quit Excel, not just close and reopen file. That's why I think it's a memory leak...

The file is less then 200 rows with 15 columns. Most cells have a…

Thanks for your feedback. Several issues have been fixed with regard to cell selection. Some have already been released and one fix will be available in the Oct. 2019 monthly release of Excel for Mac. Once you have version 16.30 or greater, you should no longer have an issue if you are using repeated rows at the top of your sheet and using Page Layout View. If you want to get the fix sooner, you can opt into the Insiders program and choose the Fast updates. To do so, just go to Help > Check for Updates. Then check the box to join the Office Insider Program and choose Office Insider Fast. Then press Check for Updates and install version 16.30×.

  6. Excel for Mac should have the new Stocks functionalty

It would be great if Excel for Mac (Insiders) is able to have the new Stocks functionality currently used by Excel for PC (Insiders)

This functonality is described in https://support.office.com/en-us/article/get-a-stock-quote-e5af3212-e024-4d4c-bea0-623cf07fbc54

In respect of this particular capability, it would bring Excel for Mac more in line with Apple Numbers which currently offers something similar.

Thank you for considering this addition.

Good news. In the next monthly update of Excel for Mac, when you open an XML file, it will be imported as a table. In addition to that, if you have more complex needs and you have access to Excel on Windows, you can set up a query using Power Query, and you can refresh the query in Excel for Mac. You can find more about Power Query in Excel for Mac here – https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Excel-Blog/Get-amp-Transform-Power-Query-in-Excel-for-Mac-Phase-1/ba-p/876840

The XML import capability is included in Excel for Mac version 16.31 (191022) or greater. If you want to get version 16.31 sooner than waiting for the next monthly release, you can opt into the Insiders Program by going to Help > Check for Updates. Choose the Fast updates to get the update faster. You can opt out of the Insiders Program if you want to go back to the next regular monthly update cycle.

  8. ExportAsFixedFormat xlTypePDF

the function ExportAsFixedFormat xlTypePDF does not print images, charts or graphs.

    For example

    Sub PrintReport()
    Dim sPath As String
    sPath = "/path/to/myreport.pdf"
    Sheet1.ExportAsFixedFormat xlTypePDF, sPath
    End Sub

will produce a PDF file, but if the print range contains images ,graphs, etc. they will be omitted.

  9. Relative hyperlinks broken for Office 365 Excel

The newest two updates to Office 365 (16.9 & 16.10) broke the way that relative hyperlinks work in Excel for Mac.

As an example, if you have documents located in a folder called "Documents" and try to create a relative path hyperlink "Documents/*some document*", Excel can no longer follow the hyperlink path, and returns "Cannot open the specified file"

This does not happen on older versions of Excel for Mac, or on Excel for PC. This has created a huge problem in my office, where we have hundreds of Excel documents with thousands of PDF links connected this way.

    Please…

This issue was fixed in 2018, so this status should have been updated much earlier than now, but the marching ants will go away if you take some other actions, including double-clicking to start editing a single cell, or typing in a cell.

This change was made directly in response to feedback that we received in this forum and by using the Send-a-Frown button in Excel. We encourage you to send feedback about any issues or suggestions, because we actively take feedback into account when making updates to Excel.

  11. Bring back all the macro features lost in 2011 and 2016

With 2011 and especially 2016 many of the vital functions in VBA recording and editing were lost making the writing of VBA macros impossible. User forms, debugging and relative referencing were three such features lost.

I used VBA to add features not available in Excel. As a transcriber of old church records I enter a lot of pre 1900 dates. These must be in a special dd mmm yyyy format which used to be checked by macro. I also check other fields for CAPITALISATION and Proper Case. None of this is now possible.

The advanced issue of a new version…

Beginning with the release of version 16.x in early 2018, we have aligned the VBA capabilities of Excel on Mac and Windows to a much greater extent than in the past. Hopefully this has addressed all the needs of this suggestion.

If there are specific issues that are not addressed, please update to the current version of Excel by going to Help > Check for Updates. If the issue persists, then please send feedback using the Send-a-frown button in the top corner of the app.

Thanks for suggesting and voting for this feature. As of version 16.9 (released in January 2018), Map charts have been supported in Excel for Mac for O365 subscribers, and they’ll be getting easier to use very soon.

Currently, if you have geographic data that can be used on a Map chart, you can click on the Insert > Recommended Charts button and Excel will recommend a map chart to insert.

In an update coming soon, we’ll be adding a “Map” chart button to the Insert tab of the ribbon, so it’s more obvious that you can insert a map chart.

For the specific crash described with version 15.39, we are not receiving reports of this exact scenario. We continually monitor for crash reports that are submitted at the time of the crash as well as by feedback sent from within Excel (the smiley face button near the top right corner of the Excel window). Other comments here mention a variety of crashes, but we need more detail, such as exact build/version numbers, and exact steps that lead to the problem.

This topic is closed, but again, we continually monitor for crash issues and release fixes each month.

The best way to report a crash is to submit the crash information when prompted by the Microsoft Error Reporting dialog that shows up after a crash.

Good news. The Tree Map chart is available in Excel for Mac v16. There are still some finishing touches to come in the coming months. Some formatting options are not yet available, but you can do the basics now.

  17. Navigating To The Next Worksheet After Editing A Worksheet Tab

When double clicking in a worksheet tab and editing its name etc.., after pressing enter the user cannon press Control or Alt +Pg up or down and move to the next sheet. The user MUST click in the worksheet 1st before using the keyboard shortcut to navigate to the next worksheet. This is not correct behavior and seems to be a bug. Does not work like this in Office 2011 or the Windows version. Can you please fix? Thank you.

  19. Fix data entry

We have good news to share. In the January 2019 release of Excel for both Mac and Windows, this issue has been resolved. Once you install the update, Excel will allow you to override any autocorrection simply by going back and typing over the correction. For example, if you type “HSA” into cell A1, Excel will autocorrect it to “HAS”. If you go back and type “HSA” again in the same place, Excel will not correct it again. It will still autocorrect “HSA” if you type it into a different location, or if another autocorrection happens before you change “HAS” back to “HSA”. To summarize, Excel will no longer make the same autocorrection 2 times consecutively.

This fix is included in Excel for Mac if you have version 16.20 or greater, and Excel for Windows if you have version 16.0.11126 or greater.

  20. Allow removeduplicates to be used in VBA

In windows, remove duplicates function can be used in VBA and is very effective. Currently, Mac doesn't support this function in VBA. Please add this to be used on Mac as well. Thank you.

Good news. In version 16.x, the RemoveDuplicates command works in VBA.

Here’s an example of the code:
    ActiveSheet.Range(“$a$1”).CurrentRegion.RemoveDuplicates Columns:=Array(1, 2), Header:=xlGuess
