  1. Bring Back Save Workspace

In prior version one had the ability to open & arrange several windows, then save the arrangement as a "workspace" [.xlw] file. In Excel 2011 the feature was renamed as Save Layout, but is yet another useful capability which has been ripped out in the 2016 release for Mac [I believe the Windows version retains the feature.]

    Please restore that functionality.

  2. Fix concatenate function in formula builder so it doesn't crash Excels and force a shut down.

Using concatenate function in formula builder causes Excel to shut down. Repeatedly.

  3. Please add "format painter" to the ALL COMMANDS list

For some reason, this is missing from the ALL COMMANDS list when I try to add it to the Quick Access Toolbar. On Mac, it's called "copy formatting" (Windows is "format painter") but neither is shown in the ALL COMMANDS list. Please add this!!!

  4. Microsoft Excel 15.30 (Office 2016 for Mac) and earlier versions cannot open files

Microsoft Excel 15.30 (Office 2016 for Mac) and earlier versions cannot open files if pathname is long or contains special characters, generating the error message below which is not correct:

Microsoft Excel cannot access the file... There are several possible reasons:
    • The file name or path name does not exist.
    • The file you're trying to open is being used by another program. Close the document in the other program, and try again.

    • The name of the workbook you're trying to save is the same as the name of another document that is read-only. Try saving the workbook

  5. After upgrade to Office 365, "cut and paste" does not work correctly.

In Excel 2011, if I cut or copied a cell to Clipboard and then inserted a row, I could paste the item in Clipboard into a new cell. With Office 365, if I cut or copy a cell and then do anything such as inserting a row, the Clipboard is erased. This is such a fundamental action in Excel - cutting and pasting - that the "improvement" should be undone. I'd like to know when this fix is accomplished. Thank you.

  6. Inserting photo from file should default to previously selected file location

Insert photo should revert to the last used file location, not the Documents file. Every time I want to insert a photo I have to click through about 10 menus to get to the relevant folder, this is extremely annoying! On my previous PC it would revert to last selected folder.

Also it should be possible for multiple image files to be inserted in one click. On a PC these would just be cascaded into the selected cell.

  7. I am learning Excel and in all training i find just how to use excel in little steps, not a explanation how it works

I am learning Excel and in all training i find just how to use excel in little steps, not a explanation how it works in general. There seems to be a basic structure in which data and text are filled, but then there are elements like chart and graphics on this and they can be arranged to look nice.
But at the end I need a good layout ore printout, its not clear how this works from explanation of little steps. So i miss explanation how to come from "numbers" to representation.

  8. Make zoom scale consistently

I reported in Microsoft Answers that the scaling is inconsistent in Excel 2016. It worked fine in 2011. There are many examples of this, but a few are listed in the post. The MS Rep says this is the new normal.

This should be fixed so Excel developers have control over what the end user sees, no matter what zoom level they choose.

    Here's my post:

  9. Question about moving from cell to cell

I am new to the Mac Office. I used to use a PC Office 2010 version. New computer meant new office on a mac. The most frustrating thing I've noticed so far. Is when I am in one cell, and I'm done typing I hit "tab" to have me move to the next cell. But, I am having to hit "tab" or "enter" and then "tab" again before I can move to the next cell. I'm sure it's a simple thing, but it's very frustrating! Because if I don't pay attention, and I just hit "tab" once, and start typing,…

  10. Excel crashes when i use the formula searcher ("Search for a function")

With the Microsoft Office for Mac 20111 when i search for a Formula in the formula searcher ("Search for a function") where we right the name of the function to search it (in the "Formula Builder" interface) - after i put the first letter the excel crashes giving the message "Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We Sorry for the inconvenience." and it restarts. It also produces a report and ask if i want to send it to Microsoft...
Next i show you a green shoot of the error message and in the word file i…

  11. Keystroke command to open excel to the last file used

It would really be great if you could enable a keystroke command to both open excel and open to the last file used in Mac Office excel 2016.

I guess I could learn to write an apple script to do that but I'm a bit challenged at that...also no doubt better if the app engineer is the one fussing with it :-)

    thanks for considering.

  14. Display two worksheets at once

Allow two worksheets to display at the same time to expedite copy/paste from one worksheet to another. It would also help setting cell links for form controls.

  15. Web query in Excel 2008 vs 2016

I have a question involving using web queries in the Mac version of Excel 2008 and Excel in Office 2011 or 2016.

I have written some web queries for use in in Excel 2008. These queries get stock prices.

Here is a sample, file name “stocks.iqy”:

    WEB
    1
    http://finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes?s=T+MO+AEE+BCS+WATT+HCP+JNJ+KMB+MRK+NAT+SFL&f=l1

This query was originally used in a 2008 sheet. It also works when the original sheet is opened in Excel 2011 and 2016. However, if I start a new sheet in version 2011 or 2016 and try to insert the saved query into the new sheet, I receive dialog: “The file…

  16. Excel needs to better highlight the row and column identifiers.

Excel 2016 needs to better highlight row and column identifiers. The current highlighting is in very, very light grey with green underline for the row and column numbers. It lacks any real contrast, which goes directly to function and utility of Excel. In the end, it significantly limits the Excel's usability and makes me consider competing products.

In contrast, Excel 2007 highlights the row and column identifier in yellow-orange. That is much better and something I'd like MSFT to emulate. At the very least, please provide an Excel 2007 Office Theme.

  18. Excel Solver

A Life saver of an ADD-IN. It's like --- why even bother using excel without it?

. And Yet. Why can't I just solve multiple iterations of a column of say 10 different cells I want to solve using the same solution?

I can't -- unless I go to PC. write some ugly looking VB code... put some ridiculously ugly looking button on my spreadsheet.. which works for maybe 1 out of 5 people i'll send the XLSM file too.

Excel is the one product i paid the office license for --- it's still a decent workhorse. But don't you…

  20. Hebrew Lunar Calendar

Excel gives calendar support for the Arabic calendar.

I am sure there are many highly technical users working with spreadsheets with arabic calendars (pyrotechnic engineers? Pilot trainees?)

Certainly Microsoft is making enough money off the backs of the many Jewish engineers working for them in Israel, that they could finally get around to converting the Lunar calendar, which would Jewish Excel users to sort a column on Jewish dates. And please add it as patch for Office 2011, as many are more comfortable with that version vs later revs.

PS - Someone did most of the work here, but it…
