  1. Excel 2016 does have spell check while 2011 version had it

It was confirmed after a chat with your help desk that this issue is by design for Excel 2016.

Check spelling and grammar in Office for Mac:

Applies To: Outlook 2016 for Mac, Word 2016 for Mac, Word for Mac 2011, Excel for Mac 2011, Outlook for Mac 2011, PowerPoint for Mac 2011 Less

  2. auto correct in a text box

why doesn't auto correct work in text boxes???
I use text boxes in my quote template and i always have to write everything out. i have created some of my own text replacement inside of the auto correct preference tab so i do not always have to type out common things i write. They will only work in a cell and not a text box.
this is very annoying and also time consuming. e.g. si = Supply and install.

  3. Better shortcut for editing a cells text/formula than "cntr" + "u"

This is such a cludge, how about something very easy to remember and hit on the keyboard like "cmd" +"enter" or "cntr" + "return". I use this 5 times a minute and sick to death of "cntr" + "u" which also deprives me of a macro shortcut for unhide.

  5. Close this file

When you are done editing a file, you should be able to "close" the file and be returned to the default Excel Online screen which shows templates or recent files. This would prevent the locking issue we keep running into when Excel desktop continues to think you or another user is still logged into Excel online. Once the "locked" issue happens, it seems no combination of closing, restarting browser, or even rebooting machine will unlock a "locked for editing" situation. Only time seems to fix it at this point. A "close this file" button would remove all the uncertainty over…

  6. Please include the ability to modify the ribbon for Excel 2016 outright purchased Mac edition

I have purchased the 2016 Mac edition of Office and have noticed that Microsoft has dropped the option to modify the ribbon for the outright purchased edition. This has caused me problems as I am unable to do the work required for my course on how to use Excel. I have attached what my Excel looks like compared to what is on you support sight (https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Customize-the-Ribbon-and-the-Quick-Access-Toolbar-in-Office-2016-for-Mac-26911d4c-4971-41cd-b606-5fbc0318f499), as it is only available for those that subscribe. Can you please add this feature for the outright purchased editions. I really do need it.

  7. Keyboard Shortcut for Find and Replace

Can there be a keyboard shortcut for the Replace command? There's only one for Find.

  8. Bring back keyboard shortcut for align right!

Am I missing something or are we no longer able to align right a group of cells using command+R? Looking at the list of shortcuts provided by Microsoft, "align right" is not there. This is very basic excel functionality. How could it have been removed??

  9. support searching on Mac OS for unicode characters e.g. 0x000D carriage return

support searching for unicode characters e.g. 0x000D carriage return.

Many data sources use 0x0D for a carriage return.

There are times where it needs to be replaced with something else, like a tab character.

"Carriage return" is often present in imported text.
Also it can be created by Option-Command-Enter (useful in making a list within a cell), or
using the Apple Unicode Hex Input keyboard by holding option and typing the 4 digit hex code Option-000D

When searching for this character in Excel 2011 (or Word 2011) for Mac, Microsoft instead finds the space character.

    In the attached file (the…

  10. Touchbar "edit cell contents" shortcut

Please put a "edit cell contents" touchbar button roughly where F2 used to be. Would save me hours. Much more useful than the current "Paste" button.

  11. After upgrade to Office 365, "cut and paste" does not work correctly.

In Excel 2011, if I cut or copied a cell to Clipboard and then inserted a row, I could paste the item in Clipboard into a new cell. With Office 365, if I cut or copy a cell and then do anything such as inserting a row, the Clipboard is erased. This is such a fundamental action in Excel - cutting and pasting - that the "improvement" should be undone. I'd like to know when this fix is accomplished. Thank you.

  12. Pasting multiple cells into single cell (text)

Excel for Mac text editing needs to be improved.

It used to be possible to highlight one or more cells (e.g. A1:B1), then double-click a THIRD cell (e.g. C1) and paste the merged contexts of A1 & B1 into C1. Now that is no longer possible.

This is a step backwards compared to Excel 2011, and both LibreOffice and Google Sheets also supports this functionality.

  13. Fix missing Outline dialog box ("Summary rows below detail")

The button 'Outline Dialog Box' is missing from Data tab > Outline group, hence the options for 'Summary rows below detail" etc. are unavailable (only in Excel fo Mac, confirmed by MS support). This is essential functionality to enable optimal compatibility with Windows version.

Bring back the clipboard. It makes copying and pasting so much easier.

  15. Graph Select Data Y -Axis text entry field bad with long text in text box

In the “Select Data” for a graph, if you are trying to edit an existing “ axis range which has a long text (i.e the range is longer than fits in the edit box) then it is difficult to move the text entry point/cursor to the part outside the edit box. Using the left and right cursor movement keys changes the selection range rather than moving the text entry cursor. the dialog is of fixed size so you cannot widen the dialog/lengthen the text entry box.

Thanks for the great feedback. We’ll consider this for a future release.

    Thanks,

  16. Why is it that the most important tool in the Tool Bar, the one for editing what you have entered in a cell, KEEPS DISAPPEARING!!!

The field that is necessary when you need to edit or add to ANYTHING in a cell seems to have no name and periodically DISAPPEARS FROM THE TOOL BARS!!!!! I can't even find a name for it!!! DAMN! This reminds me of the old Lotus 1-2-3 when you were "Just supposed to know" that f2 was delete, it wasn't written down anywhere, it wasn't even on the key template! This is the same thing, the field I use the most is just GONE!!!!

Can you give a bit more info about the control you are talking about? (maybe a screenshot, or describe the control a bit more)

Unfortunately, while I can tell you’re frustrated, I’m not quite sure what tool you’re referring to. In order to edit a cell, all you should have to do is click the cell and start typing.

Also – what version of Excel are you using?

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

  17. Revert the ungodly change to make the first key press open a cell instead of type into it

Why did Excel 15.22 change to make the first key press open a cell instead of immediately typing into it? That hasn’t changed that since the 90s and is makes Excel incredibly frustrating to use.

This behavior ONLY occurs on the Mac version and NOT the Windows version.

  18. Allow edit mode in 'Change PivotTable date source' Location box

In Excel for windows, when changing the datasource location for pivot tables, you can use F2 to switch to edit mode and move the cursor around the location box to type the datasource location.

There doesn't appear to be an equivalent edit mode for this dialog box (and presumably others where F2 works in windows Excel) on Excel for Mac.

This is infuriating - it is often much quicker just to amend the data source location by typing rather than selecting cells. The only solution I've found is to highlight all the text in the location box, paste it to…

  19. Show number of cells selected

I would like the screen to somewhere show a readout of how many cells are selected. Whether I'm selecting a group of cells to either paste to, or copy from (or even just select to get a manual count, without copying or pasting), I'm amazed that a program as mature as Excel does not have the simple, basic functionality of showing how many cells are selected. Please implement this!

  20. Make boxes like 'define name' box and define data for charts resizable.

Not sure if this is editing Make the floating boxes like 'define name' and specify data for charts resizable. They are very difficult to use if names are longer than just a few characters. e.g. when defining a name from a different work book.
