  1. Adding a scroll bar as a default option in excel charts

It appears when the range of data in a chart is huge, providing a scrollbar can be a handy option to scroll through big data in a user friendly way (without going through sizing -resizing again). If you can provide this option with charts (and thus in VBAs), it will be a handy feature to work with !

Thanks for the feedback and further clarification. We are currently exploring a number of interactive features like this. We’ll keep this one in mind during our planning process. Please continue to vote on this feature idea.

    Thanks,

  2. Integrate units into cells for display and mathematical operations

Allow numbers to be displayed with text (without using the concatenate), while also being able still use the numbers/text for equations. Then units can be displayed (e.g.20 mm) and referenced to be operated on via another cell (e.g. 20mm*2+5 = 205mm)

---------------Keep reading if want more Details/explanation---------------
Minimum way to implement would be to provide function to ignore all text for calculations (de-concatenate?) but then add it back in at the end (re-concatenate)...all in one function. This would be the quick and dirty method to get the low hanging fruit.

Super slick way to implement would be to go a…

  3. VLOOKUP NEW OPTION FOR DATABASE TABLES

VLOOKUP already support table names (if formatted as tables) column name... simply, make VLOOKUP accept not only a column INDEX but also a column NAME, e.g.

    VLOOKUP(A1, [Orders], [OrderDate], false)

  4. New Slicers - combo boxes and an option for cascading slicers.

Sometimes slicers take up too much screen real estate or have too many members which hinders the UI experience. Searchable combo boxes and a cascading option where slicers only appear if a parent slicer was first selected would help address this and give more option to designers for creating a better experience.

  5. Make Excel Print exactly as shown on screen.

When text is included in an Excel spreadsheet, the printout can differ radically from the view on screen. Lines that fitted within a cell are suddenly too long, causing words to drop down and lines to disappear. Even if the layout is perfect on screen and in print preview, the hard copy version goes awry. This was a problem in Office 2003 and Office 2010 and now it's happening in Office 2013. Please fix it.

  6. Allow the ability to see into and import .zip, tar.gz, etc.

I love the big data stuff but I hate decompressing files. I spend whole days doing this and I need a solution. Can you add the ability for Excel to see into compressed files natively?

  7. Fix the problem with multiple Groupings on the same field in Pivot tables

Until Excel 2003 the Pivot Table Wizard asked the user if he/she would like to keep the new pivot table independent from the others (separated data cache). This allowed i.e. to create different groupings on the same field. Starting from Excel 2007 this option has disappeared from the pivot creation gui interface. Please re-add it.

  8. View vba code in protected view

When a file is in protected view, i can't see the vba code in the editor. This is rather impracticale since it makes it impossible to determine if it is safe to disable protected view for that file.

  9. Bioinformatics: gene names errors

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC459209/bin/1471-2105-5-80-1.jpg

i have recently noticed this while trying to modify a dataset in excel and importing it back into R, which throws the duplicate rowname error (e.g. sep1 and sept1 get automatically formatted into the same values).

this is a really minor nuisance because most of the work is done in R, and maybe it's better addressed by guys at R. i dunno

  10. Animation in Excel Charts just like PPTs

In corporate world generally powerpoint presentations are used because they give option of animations.

in excel it is possible to do with VBA (to some extent) but still its very hard.

If it could be made possible to give animations in Charts/ areas (A1:G7) / Name ranges, it would be very useful for presenting data.

thanks for the forum. its really great. :)

    Sarvesh Prasad

  11. Ordinal Number Format

How about an option to format as ordinal numbers, similar to what can be done in fields in word with *Ordinal

  12. Need a macro shortcut key manager

Please create a macro shortcut key manager! Right now, I have no way of knowing if Ctrl+k has been assigned to a macro, or what macro a shortcut key is assigned to (i.e. both directions are unknown). It would be very nice to have a table that you could edit and track down what macro shortcut keys you have assigned to what macros. I consider not having this utility a bug.

  13. Build a Pivot Table from the Source Data Sheet

When creating a pivot table, a lot of time is spend navigating between the source data sheet, and the sheet the pivot table is on. It would be great to have the field list appear on the source data sheet. You could put a button on the field list or in the ribbon that allows you to jump to the source data sheet and keep the field list open. It is great to be able to see the data in the fields when building a pivot table, as the field name does not always give you enough info to know…

  14. MODE function work for text

Could you make the MODE function work for text?
Currently you have to do a crazy index and lookup thing, which could all be made so much easier if mode worked for text. i.e., if you have MODE("a", "b", "c", "a") you would get "a".

  15. Stabilize ActiveX Controls

ActiveX controls aren't stable--for example, they get moved to a different part of the screen after hiding then unhiding a row, or the control gets larger and the caption gets smaller every time you click it. I shouldn't have to write a macro to put my controls back in their proper places--they should just stay where I put them to begin with!

  16. Automatic labeling for scatterplots

Please provide a way to add labels automatically to scatterplots. It would be great if you could add a third dimension of data that would be text labels for scatterplots.

Thanks for the suggestion. We are looking at ways to do this labeling automatically.

In the meantime, we did provide a way to do this in Excel 2013 but it requires a few steps.

    1) Turn on “Data Labels” for your scatter chart
    2) Open the “Label Options” in the task pane. This can be done by double clicking on one of the data labels.
    3) Check the box called “Value From Cells”. Then select the range that contains the labels for each data point.
    4) Turn off the other extraneous labels in your data label from the “Label Options” task pane.

Please give this a try and continue to vote on this feature request (e.g. automatic labeling) which will increase its likelihood of getting into the product.

    Thanks,
    Scott [MSFT]

  17. Allow formulas in a text box beyond a simple cell reference

Text boxes currently only allow simple cell references like "=A32". It would be useful to allow more complex formulas so that one could write "=MAX(A2:A32)" directly in the text box, rather than reference another cell with that formula.

  18. Weighted Average

A function that can handle Weighting for averages, which would be the SumProduct of the Average Range and Weighting Range divided by the sum of the Weighting Range.
    WeightedAverage(AverageRange,WeightingRange)
    WeightedAverageIfs(AverageRange,WeightingRange,CriteriaRange,Criteria,...)

  19. Data Validation should be allowed to come from UDFs that result in Lists of values or arrays, not only Ranges

Zillions of people have tried and never fail to fail - to create a data validation UDF that returns a list. Anything comma separated has to be entered as a literal formula. Even bona fide lists - should the items have commas themselves - provide no way to escape the comma as a separator. But the holy grail would be the capability to use not just a Range as the source for the validation, but any list generating UDF.

  20. Screen does not update while running a macro in Excel 2013

In Excel 2010, you could control whether or not the screen updates while a macro is running by setting Application.ScreenUpdating to True or False. In Excel 2013, screen updating cannot be controlled in this way.

Screen updating is especially important for long-running macros (e.g. interactive macros, long calculations) to let the user know that the macro is still running and that Excel has not crashed.
