  1. Implement Nvidia CUDA Parallel processing to decrease processing times on Nvidia powered machines

I am not entirely sure how this would be preformed but I have seen examples of excel using the processing power of a GPU to massively decrease calculation times when working with functions that can take advantage of the parallel processing that the GPU is capable off.

  2. What-if Data Table calc should use multi-threading

Calculation Performance of iterative what-if Data Tables is unnecessarily slow. The reasons seem to be (in priority sequence):
    - each iteration is using single-threaded recalculation rather than multi-threaded
    - the overhead for the whole table calculation looks larger than it should be
    - the process starts with a recalc, then does each iteration, then ends with a recalc: the first recalc is unnecessary
    - if the values to be used in one of the iterations are the same as the start values the recalc for that set of values could be skipped

Many thanks to Charles for taking the time to analyze this in such detail and start the discussion about improving the efficiency of data tables. Please vote for this issue if it’s important to you so we can prioritize it appropriately.

    Thanks,

  3. Fix the scrolling issue in 365

Currently when I using a mouse wheel to scroll down any excel charts, the page scrolls down in leaps instead of tiny increments. Changing the scrolling to progress down the page in tinier increments will provide users a much smoother experience. The current scrolling is problematic, because when scrolling through large cells the page appears to 'jump' down or up very quickly and it is hard to keep track of whether you have missed a cell. It is not possible to smoothly scroll from the top of an excel sheet to the bottom because it is so jumpy. This also…

  4. Filtering should not recalculate the filtered range

This also applies to row/column hiding/unhiding and unfiltering. Excel should recalculate only the formulas that use SUBTOTAL on the range whose cells' visibility is being changed.

This is a major performance issue when the filtered range has many dependents. The performance decrease is also unjustified when SUBTOTAL is not even used.

  5. Better use of my processor's cores.

When I look at my task manager, Excel is usually only using approximately 14% of my CPU. I work with huge spreadsheets that take a long time to calculate. Why doesn't Excel use my idle processor cores / threads?

  6. Short-circuit evaluation for AND and OR

If any argument of AND is FALSE, then AND is FALSE; no need for further evaluation.
If any argument of OR is TRUE, then OR is TRUE; no need for further evaluation.
However, the arguments of AND and OR always evaluate fully, which wastes calculation time and computer power.

The current workaround, which sacrifices clarity, is to write AND(a,b,c) as IF(a,IF(b,c)) and OR(a,b,c) as IF(a,TRUE,IF(b,TRUE,c)), since IF skips the evaluation of the branch not taken.

The only time that the change to short-circuit evaluation would not be desirable is in a case such as AND(something,UDF()), where UDF() is a UDF…

  7. Allow user to create multiple customized toolbars

Excel 2003 and prior had a wonderful feature - they allowed a user to create multiple customized toolbars with custom icons picked from a selection library or created in an image editor.

Pity Microsoft did away with that feature and replaced it with the disaster that they call a ribbon. It is sub-optimal for a power user and takes up too much screen space on a laptop.

Bring back the multiple customizable toolbars and keep the Excel 2010 feature that allows you to export the customization to a file and import on another Excel 2010 installation.

  8. Keyboard Shortcuts need to go Quicker - as they did in 2010

Keyboard Shortcuts need to go Quicker - as they did in 2010. Any finance professional or analyst will tell you that when using shortcuts in 2013, they have to wait for the keys to finish cascading before the demand will take effect. As an example, when you use Alt+HVSV and then hit escape, it takes so long that it escapes without pasting anything. This problem did not exist in earlier versions of excel, so there must me some way to revert back to the performance levels of the old shortcuts. I know several people who refuse to update MS Office…

  9. Calculation time remaining

When Excel is calculating, we currently see something like "Calculating (4 processors): 99%" in the status bar. "Time remaining" would be useful as well.

  10. Need a better distinction between "long calculation" and "frozen/crashed"

There are calculations so large and long that Excel is unresponsive until they are done. It will say something like "Book1 - Excel (Not Responding)" in the title bar. The GUI will not update and will fade if you try to click in it with your "hourglass" cursor.

If I didn't know any better (and I used to not know any better), I would assume that Excel was frozen and just kill the process and lose all of my saved work. But it isn't frozen. It's just taking a very long time. This should be made clear to the user…

  11. Improve Performance of Excel 64 bit for data download from SAP

We download data from SAP to Excel, the performance is normal with 32 bit Office, but poor with 64 bit Office. We reported to SAP and the reply is:
"SAP Desktop office integration version is same and only difference is office 64 and 32 bit. So as per our knowledge, issue has to be analyzed by micro soft colleagues. OLE calls are taking more time with 64 bit Office and hence it is resulting in performance issue."

Please improve the performance of OLE calls of 64 bit Excel from SAP.

  12. Form control scroll bar bug

With large Excel models, when a variable is linked to Form controls such as a sliders (e.g. for a dashboard), the slider can start moving of its own accord even if the user has only clicked once. Please can you fix this bug.

  13. Modified Split/freeze function

At times we need to freeze one column and scroll in left as well as right side of the sheet. so it would be great if there is a functionality to freeze one column and browse the sheet

  14. Page set up gridlines and headings

For some unknown reason everytime I open a workbook it has gone back to not printing gridlines and printing headings. I change it, and save it, but when I open it again next time it has reverted back. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix this.

  15. Integrate Cortana more closely in Excel

Integrate Cortana more closely with Excel. For example:

1-Calling Cortana to lookup VBA code and/or help online instead of opening a browser window,

2-Calling Cortana to lookup meaning/ synonyms /translation of selected Excel cells,

3-Calling Cortana to explain new functionalities of new Excel versions.

  16. Improve CONCAT

CONCAT is good but if we can have a separator syntax that would make more sense. For example assume I have alphabets form A1 to A26 and now "B1 =CONCAT(A1:A26," | ")" should give me "A | B | C | D "and so on.

hope you understood. and wish to see it ASAP in excel

    Thank you!

  17. Stop excessive CPU utilization when Excel is offline

When viewing an Excel spreadsheet offline, without internet access, Excel is constantly using 13% CPU resources for no apparent reason. No action is being performed on the spreadsheet, but Excel appears to be constantly checking for internet access. Even after I close Excel, the Excel.exe remains running at 13% CPU in the background, and must be terminated manually in the task manager. There is no reason for Excel to be constantly utilizing these CPU resources.

  18. Provide a way to revert to the old-style pull-down menus instead of the ribbon as a default option.

Provide an option to choose between the ribbon menus and the old-style pull-down menus of Excel 97-2003.
I am sticking to the 2003 version.

  19. Clear Clipboard

When you copy in excel and then past the data you have to now do an additional step in clearing the clipboard. Yes I know that you can use the esc key to do this, but it's very inconvenient when you are working with a lot of data. This extra step slows down production and allows for error of pasting data into areas or other programs/files that it wasn't intended. Please fix these clipboard issues. They are not an improvement.

  20. Ensure "Protect Workbook" Security is Unhackable : Microsoft Excel

    Hi,
Excel is still easy to unlock with googleable methods. Could Microsoft kindly ensure that their products are not so easily hackable? Thank you.

Method 1. Unlock/unprotect Excel file and software

    Step 1. Create a new folder and drag password-protected excel into the folder;
    Step 2. Open the folder and go to Organize > Click Folder and search options;
    Step 3. Tab View and scroll down to uncheck Hide extensions for known file types > Click Apply;
Step 4. Now the Excel extension is .xlsx and change it to .zip > Click Yes when it asks if you want to…
