  1. Workbook level calculation

We need the ability to calculate a single workbook when multiple workbooks are open.
When working with multiple large slow workbooks which are often not even linked together (think multiple versions of the same workbook or a large mostly static workbook being referenced by a smaller rapidly changing workbook) you want to make changes and recalculate without globally recalculating all open workbooks.
    This should be implemented as
    a) New calculation setting (persistent) - Calculate Active Workbook Only - works for Automatic and Manual F9, but Ctrl/Alt/F9 would full calculate all open workbooks regardless of the setting.
    Automatic Calc in Active…

  2. swap

    SWAP
I am frequent user of excel. many time I'll face the problem during changing/ bringing rows front and bottom and vice versa.
if you provided the swap option it will be very helpful for the quick finish of work.
and also provide some shortcuts to that, so that it made more accessible.

  3. Allow color or transparency or contrast of scroll bar slider navigation tool to be changed

Can the color or transparency of scroll bar slider navigation tool be changed? Spreadsheets with many rows make the slider tool very small
In OPTIONS, each of the three (silver, blue, or black) color schemes have same lack of contrast between the scroll area and slider to indicate location in spreadsheet

  4. Not having services in the background running from Office to waste my ram would be nice.

Not having services in the background running from Office to waste my ram would be nice. since its always needed to run in the background to run my software faster. which i dislike it running always in the background, even more when i am gaming and i want all my usage focused where it should be and not unwanted running services doing nothing but being spyware.

  5. Implement Nvidia CUDA Parallel processing to decrease processing times on Nvidia powered machines

I am not entirely sure how this would be preformed but I have seen examples of excel using the processing power of a GPU to massively decrease calculation times when working with functions that can take advantage of the parallel processing that the GPU is capable off.

  6. Filtering should not recalculate the filtered range

This also applies to row/column hiding/unhiding and unfiltering. Excel should recalculate only the formulas that use SUBTOTAL on the range whose cells' visibility is being changed.

This is a major performance issue when the filtered range has many dependents. The performance decrease is also unjustified when SUBTOTAL is not even used.

  7. Cancel button for accidental performance-hungry actions

Sometimes, due to haste, fat fingers or not thinking something through, I make a request in error.

For instance, I accidentally copy and paste the wrong thing or into the wrong place.

Often, this will be a perfomance-hungry action that I know will cause Excel to hang or crash.

Would be great to be able to hit a button to tell it to stop what it's doing and forget all about it.

  8. What-if Data Table calc should use multi-threading

Calculation Performance of iterative what-if Data Tables is unnecessarily slow. The reasons seem to be (in priority sequence):
    - each iteration is using single-threaded recalculation rather than multi-threaded
    - the overhead for the whole table calculation looks larger than it should be
    - the process starts with a recalc, then does each iteration, then ends with a recalc: the first recalc is unnecessary
    - if the values to be used in one of the iterations are the same as the start values the recalc for that set of values could be skipped

Many thanks Charles for analyzing and raising this issue! Also, many thanx to folks for voting as well. Please continue to vote for this issue if it’s important to you so we can prioritize it appropriately in the future.

    Thanx,

  9. Make a noise when long calculations complete

Make a noise when a long calculation completes. This way we can work in another window while the "Calculating 20 processor(s): % creeps up".

  10. Better use of my processor's cores.

When I look at my task manager, Excel is usually only using approximately 14% of my CPU. I work with huge spreadsheets that take a long time to calculate. Why doesn't Excel use my idle processor cores / threads?

  11. Short-circuit evaluation for AND and OR

If any argument of AND is FALSE, then AND is FALSE; no need for further evaluation.
If any argument of OR is TRUE, then OR is TRUE; no need for further evaluation.
However, the arguments of AND and OR always evaluate fully, which wastes calculation time and computer power.

The current workaround, which sacrifices clarity, is to write AND(a,b,c) as IF(a,IF(b,c)) and OR(a,b,c) as IF(a,TRUE,IF(b,TRUE,c)), since IF skips the evaluation of the branch not taken.

The only time that the change to short-circuit evaluation would not be desirable is in a case such as AND(something,UDF()), where UDF() is a UDF…

  12. Allow user to create multiple customized toolbars

Excel 2003 and prior had a wonderful feature - they allowed a user to create multiple customized toolbars with custom icons picked from a selection library or created in an image editor.

Pity Microsoft did away with that feature and replaced it with the disaster that they call a ribbon. It is sub-optimal for a power user and takes up too much screen space on a laptop.

Bring back the multiple customizable toolbars and keep the Excel 2010 feature that allows you to export the customization to a file and import on another Excel 2010 installation.

  13. Calculation time remaining

When Excel is calculating, we currently see something like "Calculating (4 processors): 99%" in the status bar. "Time remaining" would be useful as well.

  14. Keyboard Shortcuts need to go Quicker - as they did in 2010

Keyboard Shortcuts need to go Quicker - as they did in 2010. Any finance professional or analyst will tell you that when using shortcuts in 2013, they have to wait for the keys to finish cascading before the demand will take effect. As an example, when you use Alt+HVSV and then hit escape, it takes so long that it escapes without pasting anything. This problem did not exist in earlier versions of excel, so there must me some way to revert back to the performance levels of the old shortcuts. I know several people who refuse to update MS Office…

  15. Need a better distinction between "long calculation" and "frozen/crashed"

There are calculations so large and long that Excel is unresponsive until they are done. It will say something like "Book1 - Excel (Not Responding)" in the title bar. The GUI will not update and will fade if you try to click in it with your "hourglass" cursor.

If I didn't know any better (and I used to not know any better), I would assume that Excel was frozen and just kill the process and lose all of my saved work. But it isn't frozen. It's just taking a very long time. This should be made clear to the user…

  16. Improve Performance of Excel 64 bit for data download from SAP

We download data from SAP to Excel, the performance is normal with 32 bit Office, but poor with 64 bit Office. We reported to SAP and the reply is:
"SAP Desktop office integration version is same and only difference is office 64 and 32 bit. So as per our knowledge, issue has to be analyzed by micro soft colleagues. OLE calls are taking more time with 64 bit Office and hence it is resulting in performance issue."

Please improve the performance of OLE calls of 64 bit Excel from SAP.

  17. Arranging open files

I want to arrange my open Excel files on top of each other and the only way I can do this is to drag them into a pile because they no longer open where I want them. Arranging them horizontally, vertically, or cascading is NOT what I want.

  18. Form control scroll bar bug

With large Excel models, when a variable is linked to Form controls such as a sliders (e.g. for a dashboard), the slider can start moving of its own accord even if the user has only clicked once. Please can you fix this bug.

  19. Page set up gridlines and headings

For some unknown reason everytime I open a workbook it has gone back to not printing gridlines and printing headings. I change it, and save it, but when I open it again next time it has reverted back. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix this.

  20. Integrate Cortana more closely in Excel

Integrate Cortana more closely with Excel. For example:

1-Calling Cortana to lookup VBA code and/or help online instead of opening a browser window,

2-Calling Cortana to lookup meaning/ synonyms /translation of selected Excel cells,

3-Calling Cortana to explain new functionalities of new Excel versions.
