  1. Total least square fitting on graphs & Deming regression in line-of-best-fit functions

Least squares fitting only minimizes the error in dependent variables. The error in the independent variables is ignored.

For the graphing of any data obtained by measurement, such as in science, we should consider the error in all variables, and so we should have an option to plot curves of best fit based on total least squares fitting.

It would also be nice to have an option to specify Deming regression in some of the line-of-best-fit-related functions such as SLOPE, INTERCEPT, FORECAST, LINEST, TREND, PEARSON, and RSQ.

  2. Pre-formatted templates for data visualisation (e.g. tables, charts)

I see this as a modernisation, ease of use of good old excel for people who are not advanced users, or people who don't have time or many people who only need basic features - e.g. tables and (related) charts.

I love the idea I could just dump data and instantly have a nice outcome/visualisation, potentially in a box, so I could see the template coming alive as I dump/amend data.

To wrap up, all the user would need to do is to copy/paste data to populate the fields for the templates. No further action required from users, no need…

Thanks for the idea. I just want make sure I understand it. Are you suggesting that we automatically create a chart when data is put in the grid? If not, is there an example you could provide?

    Thanks,
    Scott [MSFT]

  3. Expose more related charting objects in VBA (a points' values, range, series, etc)

It is not possible to access a point's values or range from VBA. We have to parse the point's name (S3P14), the go to the third series' 14th cell in the x values range to access the points' value or range.

It is also not possible to access a series' legend entry as a property from VBA.

There are many examples of this kind of "incompleteness" of the VBA charting object model. It would be great if these related objects could be exposed, to simplify code.

Thanks for the feedback. We’ll consider this for a future release. Please continue to vote on this feature request which will increase its likelihood of getting in the product.

Could you further comment on the other areas which you feel are incomplete?

    Thanks,
    Scott [MSFT]

  4. Improve graph creation and customization

When graphing it's a nightmare to make something with error bars or to create a good legend ... etc. Please make it possible to insert a group as a single value for a bar chart. Select the group, ask the chart to display the mean (or median or whatever statistic), and from there ask it to display error bars and so on.

Speaking of error bars, I think it's necessary to add the option of changing the width of the flat caps. Having larger charts is excruciating.

Another problem with the charts is that I can't specify the range easily.…

For your last item, could you provide a sample workbook showing your problem?

    Thanks,
    Scott [MSFT]

  5. Add a Normal Probability Axis Option to Scatter Charts

A normal probability axis, including cumulative probability option, would be wonderful. Have the option to format the axis labels as decimal, percent, or 1/p. Currently we have to add many series to represent gridlines, add text boxes for axis values, and get new series values using NORMSINV to chart on a probability scale.

  6. Error with scatter plot (aka data parsing)

    Charting as a scatter plot.
If I have a table exactly like this:
    x y
    1 2
I expect to plot exactly one point at coordinate 1,2. Instead I get two points even though it's a scatter plot.

To get around this I have to make up additional points, and then erase them. I should not have to do this.

  7. Allow dynamic selection of data callouts/labels

I'd like to be able to say, for example, "show the label for the 2nd to last item in the series".

Many of the dashboards I see/create pull in data on refresh and this would allow one to create better visuals that require less futzing are refresh.

  8. FIX: Changing formats for one data label/callout impacts other lables/callouts in the same series

As is (in Excel 2013), when you want to change a label, often times, you end up also resetting the other labels as well.

  9. "Comment" window double as container for Chart or visual data Analytics object

The cell 'comments' window should double as a container for 'simple? ' visual data analytics objects, charts, or BI visuals. For example if I had a column or row of numbers
    row 1 - 3, 5, 6, 7
    row 2 - 4, 6, 9,10
I would like to click in an area in either of the last numbers of either ranged row of numbers and a pop-up visual chart view of the data would appear. Chart Labels could be created in the Data Validation window just as lists are made.

  10. Filter in the Data Table below a chart

Make it able to hide rows/columns with a filter option in the "Data Table" with chart data that can be added to a chart.

  11. When altering a graph have an option to see the updated graph only after the settings window you had open is closed.

For example when adding multiple data series to a scatter plot the graph is updated after each series is added. It can take a long time to add a new series after a few have been added, when using large amounts of data points. I suggest something like what photoshop does which allows you to disable updates until the current settings window is closed.

I have found a work around. If you place the graph in excel so you can't see it and click "Format-select data" you can plot as many series as you like without lag since it is…

  12. Convert freeform shape to plot via x,y points

I would like to draw a freeform shape using the drawing tools, and then apply a tool or function that allows me to replicate the shape in an x-y plot. I found some VBA code online that lets me find the vertices of said shape, and I can plot those vertices in an x-y plot, but it comes out as some sort of weird approximation. It reminds me of when you use Google translate for a phrase into one language, and then you translate it back.

  13. Add floating button

with VBA it can be done, but if you can use floating buttons of different shape in your sheets it would look great.

  15. From a chart's series to x/y values range with a right click menu option

Consider adding these options to a selected series' or datapoint context menu:
. Go to the X values range
. Go to the Y values range
. Go to the series name range
    . Extend/contract series range by n cells.

I've actually implemented all of this for my own use in VBA, with keyboard shortcuts. So Alt+Right extends every range one cell, Alt+Shift+Right extends every range 20 cells, Ctrl+i in a chart takes me to the X values range (or cell, if a single data point is selected). HUGE time saver.

  17. VBA: add a TAG property to the Chart object

A chart in a worksheet has a name, the only way to identify the chart in VBA is to use the shape name.

But when the user moves the chart to an other sheet and back, the name of the chart changes! I understand that it is necessary that the name changes, but at this point we can not identity the chart anymore.

So a TAG property (same as in ActiveX controls) would be very helpful to find the right chart within a macro.

  18. Under Charts, Add a Mind Map Presentation for Excel : Excel

I want to visualise my data as a mind map/word tree. I have multiple sectors to cover and some industries have branches. Currently, you can find free mind map software like Freeplane and Mindmapper but they are limited and difficult to use. Their basic design uses Excel formulas and links nodes (cells). The source code can be copied from their websites.

Could you kindly input this as a chart visualization in Excel?

  19. Select Scatter Chart Series Data ranges from cells

Select Scatter Chart Series Data ranges from cells. This would allow charts to be customized based on the data length without having to edit each series. For example Series1 =Data!$A$5:$A$10004. Being able to use cells for A, 5 and 10004. Possibly even Data. Build the string in a cell and then set the series equal to the cell. Much as Chart Title can be set equal to a cell.

  20. Build histogram with Cp Cpk analysis

For statistical process control, many companies use process stability and capability indexes for normal distribution. The most useful tool has to be histogram with upper and lower specification limits to access stability and capability of the process. it could be used in data analysis add-in.
