# Excel for Windows (Desktop Application)

Welcome to the Excel for Windows (Desktop Application) feedback forum! This is the place for users to send us suggestions and ideas on how to improve. If you think you have found a bug, please send us feedback in-app instead! To do so, please click “File”, then “Feedback”, then “Send a Frown” in Excel. This way, we will get detailed information that will help us better diagnose the problem.

1. ## probability plots

Implement probability plots similar to those in minitab. In a probability plot, a series of measurements appears as a curve with the quantity being measured on the x axis, and percentiles on the y axis. The curve becomes a straight line if the data is normally distributed. Some probability plots can also be constructed for other distributions.

2. ## Increase number of series from 255 to atleast 1000

For technical or scientific data (eg band structures) we need many data series charted before narrowing down to fewer. The series limit is very annoying and has no fix except to go to open source or a different app.

Could you provide some additional examples or use cases where you need more than 255 series? We want to better understand the scenarios of usage.

Thanks,
Scott [MSFT]

3. ## Waterfall

is there a way to add multiple data series along the horizontal axis in a waterfall chart?

We currently don’t support multiple series in a waterfall chart. However, we’ll consider this for a future release. Please continue to vote on this feature idea.

Thanks,

4. ## Improve Data Visualization (Analytics) and/or Charting options -- thus making EXCEL the defacto app.

Improvement should include more options (including 3D) than presently available -- bringing more up to par with other offerings (such as Tableau, Prezi, etc.)

This is a very broad statement. Please provide additional details on the specific features that you would like to see. Ideally log those as spate feature requests so that others can vote on them individually.

5. ## easy way to plot a maximum curve for multiple curves at once. upper envelope curve

Right now there isnt a way to plot an envelope curve easily in excel without first finding arguments to find the data that you are looking for. With some data sets this can be really difficult and it would be nice to find the max and minimum y for any given x.

7. ## Create unique object names by worksheet

Charts and other drawing objects don't have unique names. To illustrate, we could have a dozen charts on a worksheet, all named "MyChart".

These duplicate names make it difficult for VBA and any other programs to work with drawing objects, including charts.

Excel should enforce unique object names by worksheet.

8. ## Chart gridlines on top of series as option

Allow users to optionally select which 'layer' of a chart the gridlines sit. eg, I have an area chart to show a target, with a line of actual performance over it. I would like the gridlines to show over the area layer of the chart, but sit behind the lines.

9. ## Hiding a PivotField deletes right PivotChart Axis

Have a PivotChart with 2 series bound to the left AxisGroup and 2 series bound to the right AxisGroup.
Now hide the PivotField corresponding to one of the series bound to the left AxisGroup.
==> Excel deletes the right Axis and binds all series to the left AxisGroup; see Demo macro.
That is not desired.

Sub Demo()
Dim lcCO As Excel.ChartObject
Dim lcLO As Excel.ListObject
Dim lcPT As Excel.PivotTable
Dim lcWS As Excel.Worksheet

Set lcWS = ActiveSheet
With lcWS
.[a1] = "Time": .[b1] = "Left1": .[c1] = "Left2": .[d1] = "Right1": .[e1] = "Right2"
.[a2] = "0:00:01": .[b2] =…

10. ## Fix broken charts and dependencies when ForceFullCalculation is turned off

When ForceFullCalculation is set to TRUE and then set back to FALSE, charts will not update until Excel is completely closed and the document re-opened. In addition, you cannot trace formula dependencies either (until restart).

Whatever is needed (re-build of the dependency tree?) should occur when this is set to FALSE, so that you may continue working on the document.

11. ## Allow left and right vertical axes to sync their gridlines

Suppose we have a left and a right vertical axis. One axis could have, say, five labels and tick marks, and the other could have seven. But there's no way to synchronize those items so that their gridlines can overlap.

To implement this, you could offer a check box that would synchronize the two axes, or you could allow us to specify the number of tick marks on each axis so we could synchronize them ourselves. Better yet, you could offer both options.

12. ## For technical users of Excel, we absolutely need more symbols in the charts. Double new symbols: simply flag all existing symbols.

Simply adding "flags" to all existing symbols, with optional color and fill options (for the symbol), can create double the number of symbols currently available. This is needed for highly technical charts. Also, if the symbol choices were made at the time the data were selected, much time could be saved from adjusting the chart later. "Flags" are simply a 45-degree-line tick mark on the upper right side of the symbol.

13. ## There is a bug where charts sometimes do not update

This happens only rarely, I have noticed it a couple of times in larger spreadsheets. Something in the spreadsheet gets changed, formulae recalculate and the values in the chart range change accordingly, but the chart itself does not change.

The only thing I have found that can trigger an update consistently is this code:

Set sht = ActiveSheet
For Each co In sht.ChartObjects
co.Activate
For Each sc In ActiveChart.SeriesCollection
sc.Select
temp = sc.Formula
sc.Formula = "=SERIES(,,1,1)"
sc.Formula = temp
Next sc
Next co

Issue is discussed here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4902703/excel-chart-wont-update

14. ## Create Vector Sparklines for easy scalability and use in Powerpoint or other programs

Exporting sparklines from Excel is not very flexible. When copying and pasting sparklines into a PPT placeholder, the placeholder must be exactly the height of what is being pasted or the sparklines appear in the wrong size.

Scaling the sparklines up results in a highly pixelated image and reduces the usefulness of sparklines across different programs. Creating a way to have vector-based sparklines without a background fill that can scale would be amazing.

15. ## Improve the precision of object placement on charts

Since Excel 10, the precision of placed objects like lines on charts has deteriorated. For example, drawing a 45 degree line on a chart from one corner to the other is very imprecise because it seems the cursor has trouble picking up the correct pixel in the chart axes corner. Sometimes the chart has to be resized to nail the placement down.

16. ## Make points into objects

Make scatterplot data plot points into objects that can be selected with the mouse in order to remove them from a regression or move them to another series.

17. ## Axis title high-low option for charts.

For some unknown reason, excel chart always flips my data so that the first data point is at the bottom of the y axis. As a result, I always have to select 'reverse order' so that the data appears in the order that I type it. Annoying, but not a major problem. However, the x-axis title is now always at the top, and there is no option to select 'high' to place it at the bottom of the chart.

18. ## Separate Update chart button, hotkey

Need separate option for run graphic update automatically and separate button for run chart calc. This seems to be very processor intensive and slows down large table updates that happen before chart updates.

20. ## Discriminator values to color cells

Allow values to be used as color discriminators for scatterplots. Identify a column of values and specify a number of bins to base the colour discrimination. Change the colour for each bin and allow each bin to be a seperate series so that regression lines can be drawn.
