  2. Excel: Add Sub Tabs (or Sub Worksheets) to Worksheets

The best thing you guys could add to Excel are sub-tabs at the bottom of a Worksheet. Example: Main tab might be Canada, and sub-tabs might be London, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, etc. Another main tab might be U.S.A and sub tabs might be New York, Detroit, Houston, etc.

  3. Display/List the name of the currently active Custom View

Custom Views are a helpful means of working with a limited portion of the spreadsheets data.
Custom Views could use some improvements:
    1. Provide a way for the user to know which Custom View is currently active.
    a. The name of the Custom View could be displayed in the Status Bar as: Custom View “CustomViewName”.
    b. When necessary or advantageous to save display space, an abbreviation such as the letters “CV” could be displayed. The full-text listing could then be displayed when the (mouse) cursor was hovering over this abbreviated display.
    2. Provide a quick access to changing the current…

  4. You should be able to change the colour of the drop down menu when columns are filtered. The change in icon to a down arrow isn't clear enou

When you have column data filtered the drop-down list icon changes from a bar thingy to a down arrow and funnel, this still isn't clear enough particularly if you have a large number of columns filtered. You should be able to change the colour of the drop down so it stands out more.

  5. Provide a list of symbols with their meaning and usage { like #, !, [a space between cell references], brackets (in references) }

Microsoft Office just sent out an email with an Investment Tracker template and I can't understand the symbols and can't find any listing on Microsoft website. Provide a second worksheet that explains the construction and symbols. You do a good job on functions and formulas, but not on these symbols that mostly seem to have to do with references.

  6. Multiple sheet in same window at once

When working in a single file with multiple sheets quite often is required to view / work multiple of them at same time.

But actually there isn't option to arrange all the sheets in the same window.

  7. Recently used files is found by File and Home icon

FYI. Previously, Recently Used Files displayed when Files tab was selected. In Excel and Word 365, it does not appear until you hit "Home" icon. This is a very frequently used feature and it would be good to clue everybody in on where it has moved to.

  8. Quick Access Toolbar needs option to be located at the bottom of the screen just above status bar.

Having quick access at the bottom of the screen is consistent with the quick access for Windows. It's current two positions (above or below ribbon at top of screen) are hardly any different. In word, I need to change view modes and that's on the status bar, but in Office 365 there's three arbitrary choices and it's not customizable. If the Quick Access Toolbar could be docked at the bottom of the screen in Word, it could replace that. Change status bar to only show "status" of view mode. We need to put the view mode shortcuts a user actually…

  9. Bring back the little "x" to close the worksheet

Please bring back the little "x" to close the worksheet / document only and not the application

  10. Pixel by pixel scrolling

I recently switched from Mac to Windows. Pixel by pixel scrolling was the default on Excel for Mac, and it's driving me insane that this is not implemented in Excel for Windows. This way, when working on a laptop, it's easier to navigate the sheet with the arrow keys instead of the trackpad. This is not acceptable.

Please provide an option in Excel for pixel by pixel scrolling!

  11. Double display of row & column number

Display the column number on the top and bottom.
Display the column number on the left and righ.
It is easier and quicker to find the data in the same line or column where the cell selected appears.

  13. Scrolling through Worksheet Tabs

In a workbook with many tabs, it would be nice if you could use the scrolling functionality on your mouse to scroll through worksheet tabs quickly instead of clicking on the left/right buttons a bunch of times. This functionality is available in Tableau and I use it all the time in huge workbooks.

  14. Dark button indicating columns are filtered (versus the filter icon).

When a column filter is applied, the filter button(s) change to a filter with an super-small down arrow. If you have a large number of columns, and have zoomed out, it is IMPOSSIBLE to quickly scan and see which columns have a filter applied. Simply reverse the button color - if the column is filtered, use black button / white text.

  16. Allow Excel / Office customization to make High Contrast themes workable

    Issue:
    ------
Excel is unworkable in high contrast themes. Dark black cells with white borders cause more eye strain for someone who needs dark screens but not necessarily high contrast. There is no option for making it another color (e.g. grey) or to show font colors. This issue reported by multiple users since at least 2010.

    Ask:
    ------
    Options to fix this issue
    1. Allow excel customization for high contrast / default themes to select a custom background, text, and border color. Allow text and cell colors
    2. Option to exclude selected office application from high contrast windows theme
    3.…

  17. Add an option to disable research pane

I know this can be done in vba but it would be great to add an option to disable the research pane permanently from the options menu. I've never met anyone that uses it, it only wastes time having to close it.

  18. focus color

The "active" cell with the "focus" is dull green on gray. Its hard to pick out.
Even harder if you use the search function. Good luck seeing where on the screen that cell is.
Please allow us to change the outline of the selected cells or the cells that have the focus. Telling us to download a windows color theme really doesn't help - many of us are blocked from doing so - and a theme that is good at one thing is usually a complete failure at something else. Sometimes I really miss XP and the way it could…

  19. Scroll Worksheet like a web page, not by row height.

If I scroll 1/4", I want the worksheet page to scroll 1/4", not 2" due to in-view row height. Currently, if I stop scrolling with the top/bottom portion of a row that is off-screen, Excel jumps to either row top or bottom. This makes it impossible to scroll a large cell's contents. I want Excel to visually preserve my scroll position.

Stop making Excel jump to the next/previous logical cell top/bottom postion on screen.

  20. Sheet Tabs Navigation and Organization

1- Have the option to have the sheets tabs on top of excel interface

2- be able to scroll smoothly while the mouse cursor is over the sheet tabs

3- be able to create sheet groups; Similar to groups in OneNote, however, the groups should be treated like a sheet tab. Meaning they should not be on the far right like how it is in OneNote.

4- not for me, rather for some users, being able to have multiple line of sheet tabs

overall just better navigation that suits this era.
