  1. Make it easier to set the end of a worksheet

Currently if rows are deleted, the worksheet will reopen with the original number of rows, making it hard to scroll to the end of large worksheets. The instructions for deleting superfluous rows (Delete, Clear all, save, reopen) are cumbersome and don't always work, especially if there are multiple pages involved. A way to set the end cell (row and column) would be of great use.

    • Cell Location - Highlight row and column of present cell with choice of colour and transparency

From the RIBBON View Tab – Workbook Views area - there should be an
      Option
LOCATE CELL this would open a window to allow a few options
      1. TICK BOX – When chosen would highlight the row and column of the present cell.
      2. COLOUR WINDOW - Colour and transparency could be chosen independently, for the ROW and for the COLUMN (DEFAULT- two shades of grey – the row being the heaviest shade).
      3. RADIO BUTTONS - A further option would allow the x and y axes to highlight two views:

        • highlight row and column (header and category )of the respective cell, so that data could be entered unambiguously

Many times we are suppose to add data for particular header (say Month column) and Item ( 1L Bottles), we feel unsure if I am entering sales figure in correct cell. So, it will be very helpful, if respective column & row are highlighted while entering data in any cell.

          • Put the color back in the Quick Access icons. The 2016 icon are impossible to decipher.

Put the color back in the Quick Access icons. The 2016 icon are impossible to decipher. The white theme is too bright. Please fix this awful problem. I am an accountant and I must use Excel desktop due to the size of my files. Your GIANT step backwards in icons is incomprehensible. Please give us a theme with the 2010 Excel colors and excellent definition.

            • Add the function to unhide sheets.

              1. You Right click on the sheet selection panel
              2. There would be two buttons: Unhide all, Unhide selected.
When pressed the second button (Unhide selected), You will be able to see the sheets that you hidded and others (not hidden) will not be displayed.
When pressed the first button, all hidden sheets will be unhidden.

              • Bring back the split button (scroll bars)

                Dear MS Office team,

In the 2016 version of Excel, you have removed the 'Split' tool from the scroll bars.

I know that you can do it using View -> Split, but that is a very inefficient way of doing it. Previously, we would drag either the horizontal or vertical button from the scroll bar to create the split. One click. Now, we need to (1) click View, (2) click Split, (3) remove the split that we don't want, then (4) adjust the split that we do want.

Please reconsider bringing this small but very useful button back.

                Thank you

                  • multiple rows of tabs needed

I have in excess of 150 tabs per workbook. Can you make all the tabs visable by repeating the rows underneath instead of needing to arrow across

                    • Give us the option to open multiple workbooks in the same instance.

Removing the ability in Excel 2016 to have multiple workbooks in the same instance is an absurd decision.

There is only one advantage to having workbooks open in new instances: working with very heavy files. This way you can have each file take up its own RAM allocation and you're much less likely to crash Excel.

Multiple spreadsheets in the same window is better in EVERY SINGLE OTHER CASE. Want to move everything to another monitor? No problem. Want to minimize everything? One click. Want to compare more than 2 workbooks? Easily done.

Now we have giant ribbons taking up…

                      • MS Excel - visual navigation support

Navigating in large Excel-files is sometimes confusing. I would consider it helpful if there was more visual support as to where one currently is in the Excel Sheet (e.g. as in the examples attached).

                        • Fix comments displaying across frozen panes

Comment bubbles only "float" over the fixed worksheet area that's set by default or that's manually changed by the user. They also will float over hidden adjacent rows or columns. However, if a comment is in a cell that's fixed using the "freeze panes" feature but the worksheet display isn't contiguous to the comment bubble, the bubble will be cut off instead of float over the frozen panes.

This makes it impossible to read a comment saved in a row 1 header field (say to read details of what type of data is supposed to go there) but the cell…

                          • sheet tabs

Navigating an Excel document that has many sheets is cumbersome. Allow users to display more than one row of sheets or allow user to display and organize sheets in some helpful way. Scrolling left and right all the time gets old.

I would like a simple option to allow you to pin worksheets so they are always available in the workbook irrespective of the number of worksheets there are.

I.e. when you right click the worksheet tab there is an option to pin so you can quickly gain access when you have a large number of worksheets.

                                • Restore MDI file handling (open all files in one window); Kill SDI (each spreadsheet opens in a seperate window)

In the good versions of Excel (prior to 2007) one could open multiple workbooks in the same window. Now, one has multiple instances of Excel (and every other Office app) whenever one opens more than one document / spreadsheet. Quite stupid.

(2016-04-27 Dan [MS] - updated title to fix MDI/SDI usage - they were previously being used "backwards")

Thanks for all of the votes – the team has definitely taken notice of the activity around this issue. We moved to SDI as a result of customer requests, but it looks like we’ve got work to do to really nail the use cases people care about. From a read over the comments, I see a number of cases that we will want to investigate further as we think through MDI vs SDI. We’ll get someone from the team to take a deeper look, and we may reach out to some of you for more clarification as we go. Thanks again for all the voting and passion here!

worst iteration of excel (or office) ever. Allow multiple spreadsheets in one iteration, or at least the ability to look at a sum of cells in one iteration while using another. So much time is being wasted.

                                    • title bar should be able to show file path and name, not just name

When opening workbooks, the full file path as well as the file name should show in the title bar. Currently only the name shows and since at times multiple versions of the same file are needed, but saved in different folders, it would be helpful to see the full path. I know I could have the path show in a cell of the workbook, but that involves programming a cell in each workbook, an inconvenience that showing the full path in the title bar would easily deal with.

                                      • Sub tabs

Having numerous tabs can be very messy and difficult to navigate through. It would be nice to be able to group similar / like tabs together. These tabs would be visible only when the main tab is selected. Attached is a sample of what I would be happy with.

                                        • Please add a "clip" text wrapping option

When the contents of a cell are too large for the cell, Excel's default is to let the cell overwrite adjacent empty cells. Excel can also shrink the text to fit or do word wrap, causing the row height to grow. None of those are as useful as the "clip" option in Google Sheets. Please add this!

The clip option means that, no matter how large the contents are, it will only show the portion of the contents that it can show in the space available to the cell, and it will not overwrite adjacent empty cells. This is absolutely…
