  1. Quit having a spreadsheet reopen in a different size than it was when it was closed

When I close a spreadsheet, it is the size I want it to be. But when I reopen it, Excel is as likely as not to have "decided" that it knows better than I do what I want, and it reopens in a different size. Sorry, but I do know better than Excel does what I want, and resent the arrogance displayed in changing my preferences. Make it stop!!!

When you say that it opens a different size – can you give more info? Do you mean the application window is a different size (it shouldn’t be) or that the font sizes (zoom) are different? (again, they shouldn’t be)

Additionally, if you can post a video of what you’re seeing, that would be a big help for us.

If there is a problem here, it’s definitely something we’d want to fix.

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

  2. Display Status Bar of Inactive Window 2016 Excel

In Excel 2010 we were able to highlight numbers and have their sums displayed in the grey status bar towards the bottom of the sheet. Working with 2 monitors, this feature was very helpful.

After upgrading to Excel 2016 the status bar of the non active/selected workbook disappears instead of the sum being viewable of the non active workbook.

The feature was helpful for at least 2 open excel instances where we can view the sum of the non active workbook and it would be great to have back instead of being forced to click in out of each workbook…

  3. Under "Tell me what you want to do"

Under the "Tell me what you want to do" it would be helpfull if you had the ribbon location of requested task.

  4. side by side - the old way

Can you please bring back the old way of side by side? It used to be that they shared a formula bar and ribbon, and that allowed for more of the spreadsheets to be seen. Now, each spreadsheet has an independent formula bar and ribbon and that takes up usable space. Plus, creature of habit here, I constantly go to the top to make an edit when it's for the bottom sheet, and it makes it on the top. I posted about this (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msofficeexcel-msoother/side-by-side-with-just-one-ribbon/c699f0c5-c702-480d-b63a-c1d1d5d044d3) and it was suggested that I submit it here. I might be…

  6. Freezing Rows individually

Say I want to freeze row one and row 20. Row 1 should stay frozen when we scroll from row 2 to row 19. Row 20 should over lap row 1 and stay frozen when scrolling below row 20.

  7. I would like to be able to protect a sheet in a workbook that has grouping on it and still allow the user to use the grouping option.

Please update the worksheet protection option so that we can allow the user to use the grouping option. I have set up a workbook that has many locked cells and formulas and I don't want the user to overwrite those. But it is a large file that has grouping on both columns and rows. I want the user to be able to see the info at both a high and detail level. I know there will be issues giving this work book to users without protection on that sheet. Thanks

  8. Ctrl-tab to move between workbooks (reinstate previous versions feature)

IN older versions of Excel ctrl-tab used to cycle through open workbooks in a really straightforward sequential order.

In Excel 2016 (and 2013?) this very useful navigation shortcut (it all happens on the left hand only) has been replaced with a very frustrating sequence of:

Original wbook --> Other wbook 1 --> Original wbook --> Other wbook 2 --> Original wbook --> Other wbook 3 etc.

For users who are in multiple workbooks most of the time (most power users) this is incredibly frustrating.
I understand Alt-tab switches between workbooks as each is their own instance, however this is not…

  9. Drop Down Navigation Menu for Sheets

    Hi,

I am finding that Excel is actually a great way to organise my ideas / Notes. I can quickly zoom in & Out on each sheet quickly seeing how my ideas are mapped together.

    BUT...
To navigate between sheets is a major pain.
It is also very hard to quickly summarise all the sheets like an index or contents in a book.

I would strongly recommend a drop down OR drop up Navigation list of sheets like most websites use to navigate.Further, it should be organised into categories so the current tabs at the bottom (when Clicked ) provide…

  10. Enable existing "Custom View" feature to work with tables

The existing "Custom View" feature works well. But it doesn't work for tables? Why not? That would be so handy. As well, it would be nice to be able to overwrite a custom view rather than have to save a new one and delete the old one.

  11. Excel doesn't respect mouseover scrolling behaviour

Windows 10 finally adopted the Mac/Linux mousewheel scrollling behaviour where you can scroll the window beneath the cursor with the mouse wheel (or touchpad gestures) rather than the window that has focus, by default. However, Excel doesn't seem to respect this.

  12. MSFT needs to allow multiple windows in Excel 2016. I'm not sure of what seems to have been a 'popular' request to have each window created

Lost productivity in Excel 2016. Cannot open more than 1 file per session, ruins multi monitor functionality and active window switching. If I 5 Excel files open, I shouldn't have to cycle through all 5 just to get to another open program! Major disappointment. I use two 27" monitors and often have 75% of screen space open to Excel and everything else runs in the other 25%. Now I have to manage each Excel file separately for window size, location, and task sequence. Very frustrating and very unhelpful. Provide an option to control opening all files under single session!

  13. For better focus highlight current row/column

Have the option to highlight the entire row or column (or both) that you are working on so you are less likely to read the wrong data.

  15. Visually show which cells are selected even when another application has focus

Currently, when I select one or more cells and then switch to another application, the boundary box and shading for the selected cells are not shown. Other Office applications exhibit this behavior as well--selection highlighting is only displayed when the program has focus. Many (most?) non-Office applications show the highlighting at all times.

It would be far more useful to be able to glance at the spreadsheet and see which cells are selected, even when working in another program.

  17. Why did Microsoft make the asinine decision to eliminate the sub-windows in Excel that so many of us prefer over the new forced new windows

Why did Microsoft make the asinine decision to eliminate the sub-windows in Excel that so many of us prefer over the new forced new windows for every new workbook? I'm extremely frustrated by their decision to remove a feature for no good reason except that they seem to think they know what's best for all of us. Thanks, dictators!

  18. Dont show names/tables from hidden sheets

I have a lot of tables in hidden sheets to configure workbook. The user dont need to know about this tables, but they can see in 'name box'.

Please, don't show hidden tables (and names) from hidden sheets, Also, it is useless, click in names does nothing.

  19. Keep freeze panes setting when opening a second window.

Keep freeze panes setting when opening a second window. I frequently open a new window (second view of the same workbook) so I can make changes on one tab of the workbook and instantaneously view the results on a second tab of the workbook without having to select back and forth between two tabs. The problem is once the second view is opened it no longer adheres to the freeze pane settings of the workbook. I find myself re-freezing the panes multiple times a day.

  20. Horizontal Scroll problem with Logitech mouse

I have an Excel problem with Logitech mouse.

    Dear Microsoft!
I have a same problem in the Excel 2016 (64 bit) I can't scroll horizontally by my new Logitech G502 mouse on Windows 10 64 bit. The Word and the Power Point and Google Chrome browser are working.
I used the last few year a Logitech G500. It was same problem :((
I have an old (like 6-8 years) Logitech RX250 mouse - unfortunately it works very well.
It looks Microsoft Excel bug. I am waiting for the bux fixing.
    Best Regards …
