  1. Add "Open Read Only" when right clicking a OneDrive synch'd file in File Explorer

We have large spreadsheets with dynamic formulas (e.g. today()) and sometimes we just want to read the contents and not save a new version. The files are on SharePoint and synched with OneDrive, so appear in File Explorer. We'd like to be able to right click and open read only from the File Explorer.

  2. Add a checkbox to all save dialogues that allows you to copy the path just like the Pictures save dialogue.

Being able to copy the path from the save dialogue allows a very easy way to then attach the saved file to some other application.

  3. Sequence of folders

When I want to open a folder, the list of folders does not start with the most recently used at the top. I cannot see a way of changing this default. The most recently used folder that is most likely to be the one I want to use again.

  4. make "recent files" screen an option when starting Excel, instead of start screen

have no use for the start screen. operate via recent files all the time. I can disable the start screen upon excel opening, but then i always end up with an unneeded blank document which stays open after i've opened the doc i need.

  5. Please make it to where Excel and other Office applications can use the full 400 characters when saving to OneDrive/SharePoint

Please make it to where Excel and other Office applications can use the full 400 characters when saving to OneDrive/SharePoint, users end up blaming OneDrive and SharePoint for issues/errors that are really a limitation of excel and other Office apps.

  7. Back-up and restore the pinned files list so an Office 365 Repair doesn't delete them.

I had to do an office repair this morning. All of my pinned files are gone. Having to track down each of them in a variety of folders will take some time. Back-up the settings before the repair and restore them when the repair is done.

  9. Exiting excel and saving

When exiting excel without saved progress, in the window "Do you want to save?" buttons could be more separated with clear indication on what action user would wanna take, right now they are right next to each other which makes the process prone to miss clicking/misreading.

  10. increase character limits on filenames in the cloud

Microsoft advertise that they have given us a godlike 400 character limit in OneDrive and SharePoint. Sounds good...Until you find out that not one of the Office applications supports more than 259 characters, and Excel is the clear winner at 218. Thats HALF. Not a bit less, HALF. This is borderline fraudulent, I have had customers who couldn' go to Sharepoint because of the file name limits, and after wasting a load of money on Migrations and setting up Sharepoint, all because Microsoft told us we can have 400 characters in a name, we have to revert everything back. For…

  12. Upgrades that don't wipe Excel's memory of recently opened files

It is exceptionally irritating (and costs your users valuable time) when the following happens immediately after a Microsoft upgrade. Firstly a screen appears inviting you to take a tour of all the new features you don't want. Then you select "open file" to find that the list of recently used files has been deleted by the upgrade. This then takes time to search for those files, again causing irritation and loss of productivity to your users. It strikes me that there is a shortage of competence here, both in the programmer who compiled the last two upgrades, and of the…

  13. CSV saving from Excel with commas not semicolons

When I save my file using the "CSV UTF-8 comma delimited" my file does not save using commas.
When I upload it to PowerBI, it is recognized only when I switch the type of input file from commas to semicolons.
It seems to be happening with my non English version of Excel (I use the French one), but my colleague in Ireland using the English version has no problem with this, and can save the file using commas and it will indeed use commas.
Would be nice to look into it to fix it :)

  14. Auto-save & Resume on PC Restart without blocking PC restart

Windows Update restarts suggest a good time to restart PC. When I do so, I get a horrible Office experience that wants me to File|Save many draft excel files that I have open for ad hoc analysis. My intention is not to save them but I am forced by OS to pause and resume the work. I wish Office would just terminate, allow reboot and resume without the multiple dialogs. I have all the memory, storage, etc. on the machine for Excel/Office to not be hindrance in my PC mandatory reboot cycle.

Mobile apps (including Office) handle a phone/tablet more…

  16. when saving files whenever "not responding" appears, highlight or show reason for such with explanation of how to prevent such!

"not responding'" - only when saving files is harassing me on many files, reason(s) unknown... can last on average about 10-20 seconds but have had 1 instance where shutdown was required for alleviation.

  17. Eliminate 2 step process to opening files

Eliminate 2 step process to opening files. file open should bring you directly to folder path without having to also press browse.

  19. Stop asking to save changes if nothing has changed

You open and Excel file and look at it for a moment then click Close. Excel pops up a dialog "Want to save your changes?". I didn't change anything! Please stop asking to save changes when nothing has changed. It confuses the user.

This is made worse if I've has that spreadsheet open for a long time and I don't remember if I changed it or not. Or worse, there may be other people working on the same file and if I say "Save", I overwrite their changes.

I heard that this has to do with Excel saving the current…

  20. Show More Error Details for Auto-Restored Excel Files

When Excel automatically restores a "crashed" file, and you attempt to save that file, a warning about errors is displayed. You can view the log file directly from the warning, but the log file contains the same amount of error statement wording. It would be helpful to receive more details.

In my case, the warning was:
"One or more invalid conditional formats were removed from the workbook"

It would be beneficial to know what cells had their invalid formats removed and what the invalid format rules were.
