  1. Better Field List support for Analysis Services Tabular

    It's about time to improve support for SSAS Tabular:
    1. Auto-generate DAX
    2. Avoid splitting a table into a "measure group" and "dimension". See how PBI Desktop handles metadata.
    3. Carry over data types so that users can create reports, such as show me invoices where Due Date is greater than ... Currently, all dimension table fields map to Text.
    4. Many customers have expressed interest to connect Excel tables directly to Tabular, bypassing Pivot Table, so they can use the column dropdowns and other Excel goodness.
    5. Support descriptions as tooltips when the user hovers on a field in…

    I’ve modified the title of this request to better reflect the work that we are now planning to do. The original request included multiple features, some of which we now plan to implement while others will not happen anytime soon.

    The work we plan to do is to quit showing tabular objects as if they were multi-dimensional in the PivotTable field list. We’ll stop splitting tables into measure groups and dimensions. We were already handling this correctly for the Excel data model, and we’ll extend that work to also handle external AS databases.

    In addition, when a field is dragged to the Rows area of a PivotTable, we will also stop converting everything to strings. We’ll retain the field’s data type so that we can apply proper sorting and filtering to dates and other non-text fields.

  2. File Options>Advanced>Data>Disable Autofit column width on PivotTable update

    I would like to add my name to the many users who create pivot tables daily only to see column width auto-adjust on refresh, and having to go into "Pivot Table Options>Layout&Format>Autofit column widths on update" and uncheck the box for EACH individual pivot table. It would be fantastic to have a check box in File Options (under Advanced>Data where the rest of Pivot Table options are) to uncheck the box as a default.

  5. error message pivot table field name is not valid

    Please identify WHICH pivot table is causing the problem. when you have a spreadsheet with many many pivots on many tables, this error means that you have to manually search each pivot table until you find the one (or more) that is causing the problem. in fact, because pivot tables based on tables can get messed up if you delete table columns, even if you figure out which data set is causing the problem, you still have to manually adjust (change data) for each one of the pivots based on the table. Excel should adjust the data range on pivots…

    It would be nice to have a way to manage multiple pivot tables similar to the way the name manager works, with a possible error log, in the case of overlapping or missing source data

  8. Refresh All for Pivots and data connections should have a way to set up the order of update

    Refresh All for Pivots and data connections should have a way to set up the order - at least how it progresses from tab to tab, or from top to down on a sheet. Right now, it seems like a black hole on which pivot/tab is getting updated first and which one is last if I have a workbook with 10 tabs and close to 30 pivots and few data connections. I do not see a way to either set an order or find the order in which Refresh All is working.

  9. pivot table show details

    If I have to connect some variables from a fact table to a calendar table using inactive relations (via USERELATIONSHIP in powerpivot), when I build an excel pivot table and I want to drill down using "show details" feature, the data is incorrect, because it only takes in consideration the active relation (forcing me to build two calendar tables to keep correct data in "show details" generated sheet).
    How is that possible? Thousand of users around the world uses this feature and it's not acceptable that a powerful and useful tool like Excel doesn't consider that... or am I wrong?

  11. PivotTables should respect Sets order for interspersed Total Columns

    The Sets interface allows the setting of column orders, including interspersing "All" value columns. However, the PivotTable ignores ordering for "All" valued columns and always locates them at the end of the table. If the PivotTables respected this ordering it would greatly increase to user's ability choose how they want their data displayed.

  12. Allow dates to display un-grouped by default

    Make a setting to allow dates to display un-grouped by default. Currently when you add dates to the pivot table fields it creates the quarter, month, year deal and you have to right click and ungroup. I see the usefulness of both ways but ungrouped is used far more by some users.

  13. Add the ability to run percentiles in pivot tables

    I see a request already to add the ability to run medians in pivot tables--would love to be able to do this, and also to run other percentiles.

  14. Remember collapsing state of folders of queries in Power Query

    In the current version all the folders are open when you launch PQ. It would be useful if PQ would remember their stat at the moment of last closing PQ window.

  15. Ability to lock moving and resizing of TimeLines

    Currently it is not possible to create a Timeline that can be interacted with by the user, but not moved or resized. For the Slicer, the option "Disable resizing and moving" is available. For the TImeline however, this option is permanently greyed out rendering the method impossible. I've searched for countless of hours and the only responses from Microsoft support have been "That is not possible, sry". It just doesn't make sense that you can do it with Slicers but not with Timelines. Please fix this.

  16. Pivot Table Overlapping Error

    Please develop the dialogue / call out from simply stating 'A pivot table cannot overlap another pivot table' so that you are actually provided with a sheet and / or cell reference where an overlap is trying to occur.

    If you have a large workbook / multiple sheets with many pivot tables it can be difficult to find the source of an overlap.

  17. Power Pivot Option in Excel app of Home & Business 2016 version

    I purchased the office home & business 2016 for PC version. The idea was to learn features like power pivot/Power queryl. but to my dismay this version of the excel does not have this feature in built. Isn't this supposed to be a standard feature

  18. Update the online documentation so it is correct

    The Power query M formula language reference at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerquery-m/power-query-m-reference is misleading.

    It includes a number of functions e.g. Hmtl.Table which if used in a Power Pivot Query cause an error. What the manual does not say is that these can only be used in queries originating in BI not queries originating in Excel.

    I wasted a lot of time wondering why my queries did not work before somebody told me this.

    Please go through the function reference making clear what works with Excel and what does not.

  19. sort out protection for power pivot tables

    with a power pivot table one obviously wants users to be able to do certain fairly fundamental things like sorting the data if the filter button is available or refreshing the data (which will insert and delete rows and columns, but not play around with its format or the values.

    But the protection options available on the worksheet are too limited.
    There needs to be an option to protect the sheet but allow tables to be refreshed and sorted.

    This was a bit of a pain when this was not available with oldfashioned pivot tables, but with the use of…

  20. Sort Pivot when you have "difference from % value" - this field is so useful to show YOY growth, but you can't then sort high low....

    Currently you get an error message:
    "AutoSort and SutoShow can't be used with custom calculations that use positional references"

    I love Pivots, they really save the day when you don't have good reporting tools/software, but this really drives me crazy - that I can't use the in built Pivot options to add a field showing growth from a previous measure - eg Year or Month, And... sort by descending or ascending...
