Allow custom icon sets for conditional formatting
At the moment, the build-in icon sets can't be modified. One common problem is the need for a green down arrow / red up arrow.

Agree with previous comment. Seems as if MS could enhance this capability with ease.

How is this still not a thing?
Does the Excel dev team not work with any other departments or get feedback from real users? Do they not realize that Expenses, Cost, Failure Rate, and things like that requires a reverse icon set? Do the executives not play golf? Even in some East Asian countries, RED = good/lucky thus stock market tickers show RED when prices rise.
Come on, this should be a simple fix... just add 2 more arrow icons with reversed colors into the built-in icon set, recompile, and we're all set! Let the user figure out which icon to use for their purpose.
MS devs change UI elements all the time that annoys the heck out of user (https://word.uservoice.com/forums/304924-word-for-windows-desktop-application/suggestions/11453835-please-disable-insert-controls-in-word-table). How about getting one of the interns to fix this and it'll be a change EVERYONE would actually appreciate.
I echo others' pleas to add a downward green arrow and an upward red arrow. It is such a common use case in business reporting it's hard to believe such an icon set hasn't been created already: red, yellow, and green horizontal with green and yellow diagonally pointing down and yellow and red diagonally pointing up. Do it. Do it now.
Please add 2 icons "Up Red Arrow" "Down Green Arrow".
It's the easy fix
I need a 5 icon set - Gold, Silver, Bronze, Yellow, Red for rating quality. I could use almost any object design, but would prefer circles
Agree! Reducing KPI's is often good! Down arrow green...up arrow red!

It the creating custom icon sets feature is a significant piece of work.
Please consider adding a few more icons to the set you publish.
eg: A Green arrow pointing down. And a Red arrow pointing up would solve a very common use case.
Lots of businesses strive to reduce KPI's like Expenses, Injuries, Claims. Currently Excel offers no good way to represent that, other than circles.
Many people want more, ie: Down a little is circle, Down a lot is arrow.
Another display made populate by movies & social media is a rating system. eg: x numbers of stars. It would be nice to be able to display multiple stars (or some other icon)
At present the only thing we have is signal strength bars, and the low contrast between dark grey & dark blue makes them difficult to read, thus useless.
Yes please do this! Customizable icon sets. Upload own icons from jpeg's etc.
yes, custom pictures, custom icon sets, even text...
Default conditional formatting has poor costumisation.
ex.: using "name manager" with "indirect" formula you can change pictures in a cell... this could be a good addon to conditional formating
yes, and custom picture.*
We store picture like 100x100 pixels in Excel workbook and re-used it.
