How can we improve Excel for Windows (Desktop Application)?

Getting cell information without resorting to VBA

Some organisations would prefer if we did not use VBA when designing their spreadsheets. It would help therefore if more could be done without it.
As a start can the range of information returned by CELL() be expanded to included, for example, the interior colour of the cell and the formula in the cell (as text).
As a bigger project, what about ensuring that all in-built Excel VBA formula can be accessed through the worksheet formula without resorting to VBA.

Yes, all the functions available with GET.CELL in Excel 4.0 should be ported over to the CELL() function in the current version of Office. Using old features from Excel 4.0 forces you to save the file as a .xlsm file or constantly have to reintroduce the named range each time the .xlsx file is opened. Furthermore, many are concerned that old features Excel 4.0 may introduce compatibility problems or lose support from Microsoft.
