Monopoly boon or curse
I am working with One of the largest MNC bank in India as Fund Accountant
As of now we were working on Windows 7, this pandemic of covid started and we moved to Work from home mode. WINDOWS 7 was working flawlessly in work from home
But comes devil out here , our bank started Upgrading to Windows 10 as Windows 7 is going to be face out sooner.
Basic understanding , any one can agree is if you upgrade some thing take it anything like car, home , Mobile , - upgradation means you expect even more faster , more value than existing product which you are using
Otherwise why would we upgrade if existing product is good
This is so pity that Microsoft ,. On which entire planets desktop , laptop works , company which spends 10 billion dollars on just R& D to keep their product more efficient
Such a company can’t understand that Upgradation of Version means user’s one of the expectations is more faster interference
If not faster then atleast need to maintain windows 7 flawless experience
I am telling we have 8 GB ram and i5 processors in our office and we access same machines via work from home
System is not issue here , Once we have upgraded to Windows 10 , daily we are facing lag in our working. Report which take 10 min to prepare in Windows 7 , here it’s taking taking 12 min on Windows 10. VBA macros getting crashed 2- 3 times before completion , which were running smoothly in Windows 7. Start button - when you hit takes times to show menu, who want all these glossy interference you have created in Windows start button – we just want when we hit on start button it should open up.
PC got stucked in-between for 10 to 15 min, takes time to reconnect ,
Just do a market research – if between 2 Online shopping website either one has macro second of lacking in speed – consumer switches to another website.
Each and everyone in my team is highly disappointed with Windows 10 and I am **** sure this must be a opinion of entire Financial industry across the globe
I still doubt how can Microsoft, before launching new version doesn’t do any market research on it – what our customers want – how come one single version for entire world ?
Every industry , age group, country each one may have difference needs and Microsoft is launching single version for entire world ? atleast try to cater specific group requirement.Have few version to suite these customers.
It is it like you have monopoly, so customer don't have any choice to use OS , you may be thinking that whatever you think is right product the same is useful of customer also.
That's why you may not doing market research
We works in financial industry , this very large industry , may be working 5 millions people in this sector across globe ,
We don't want all that graphic, flash which u have brought in Windows 10 ( this really slow down )
We work almost 12 to 14 hours a day and our work request us - high-level of speed on excel
Most of us use Excel then Word and PDF and PPTs
We need to very fast on these and all you jitter in Windows slow downs our performance
If you would have done a sort of market research on all sector including Financial sector , you would have come to know that we need is MS office as a major product and basic others product
So if we are happy in Windows 7 then you should have come up with some lighter version of Windows 10 which can be used by those who don't requested higher version
I personally believe that Monarchy who follows Dharma ( Vedic principle meaning righteousness) and Monopoly which follows by Good heart ( which seeks benefits of customers and keep on innovating ) are the most efficient than democracy and polygamy
But here in spite having Monopoly in OS industry and also with good heart as MS is already spending behemoth money to keep their product innovative - I would say Microsoft fails due to ignoring what end users want
I have experience the same here twice with Microsoft
- - when our MS office update from Office 7 to office 13 2 . - and recently Windows updates from 7 to 10
Both of the case end users were extremely happy with old version and you have created mess of it by bringing new product.
Another threat to Microsoft office I want to highlight by my experience is that most of financial industry is now going automating route. They are using all other automation tools which are available across the world.
VBA is like magical tool which can generate any kind of report, any kind of automation user want and it still does very efficiently compare to other tools
In-spite of having really wonderful automation tool like VBA; Microsoft has not promoted it well and other tools now claiming its place in market.
This is sign of how ‘to big to fail’ can also fails
If this keeps on continuing then another company may come up tomorrow with efficient version for financial industry and slowly Microsoft influence in will degrade
