Function to give list of conditions to ANY function
Say you have a function like FIND() that takes a single item to search for. If you have seven items to search for, you have to do them all separately. Yet FIND() cannot be upgraded (aside: for an obviously useful thing) without lots of years of us asking for it here and finally seeing, maybe, something.
The idea here is to have a funciton whose sole purpose is to pass an argument to the function wrapped around it, holding "open" so-to-speak, and after the first argument's pass is over, moving on to do it again with the second argument's value.
Want to compare any of three values against, say, 0 in an IF() with one result if any succeed? Then =IF(LIST(A1,A3,C4)=0,1,5).
It could even allow combination with AND() and OR() so you could specify such for functions where it makes sense (IF(), yes, FIND(), no... well, maybe). So =IF(AND(LIST(A1,A3,C4))=0,1,5) they must all pass, and =IF(OR(LIST(A1,A3,C4))=0,1,5) only one has to pass.
If a value caused an error, like the FIND() example could, it would be ignored if a successful return for one of the other items in the list succeesed, or returned if none did.
THIS function would be the engine forcing the wrap function to run again and again: so NO NEW work would need done on the wrap functions. For all Excel would know, nothing unusual happened.
So FIND() runs to an error on argument 1 in the list, then i sheld open to run again on argument 2, and so on, only being allowed to close when the first success is found, or all items failed and the error is to be returned. NO new programming for FIND() though, as the LIST() function does all the necessary re-running before returning control to FIND().
Jeez, and typos too. I blame this entry box.
Oops... if they do this one, the very first error entering it is in the above... dropped a ")"...
