Please allow users to opt for a smaller ribbon. Its actual size (especially after the October update) is fine only if you are working on a full HD monitor.
My company just switched from Office 2019 to Office 365. Now the ribbon takes up way too much space. I have disliked the ribbon approach from the start, but now this is just ridiculous. Hey Microsoft: we value our screen real estate for our WORK PRODUCT!! The tool bar should be as customizable and shrinkable as possible. I would like to have what I had in Office 2003 or 2007 (can't remember which), when I could create my own toolbars, get rid of commands I never use, make everything I do use single click, and put the bars on the left or right side, since I have way more horizontal than vertical space to work with. Come on Microsoft! Do you need Apple to design it for you?

Its incredible that this hasnt been addressed since October 16, 2018
The exaggerated icon spacing doesn't allow most of the icons to be seen. This stops it from being a single click QUICK Access Toolbar. Multiple clicks in the Ribbon system and keyboard combinations in the middle of mousing are not solutions. It is also detrimental to productivity to no longer be able to see the file name beside the QAT when I'm working on multiple files simultaneously. Simply too huge!

Wholeheartedly agreed. The ribbon is now taking up literally a quarter of the screen. I'm sure some UI wonk thought it was pretty to have giant icons with gobs of padding around them, but it makes Excel far less useful.
The new update last night just made the situation worse - there are now more lines of icons on the fully open ribbon and the only option is to close it. This is ridiculous if you are a power user and need to have your icons showing to get anything done but only get 3/4 of your screen for content. The rest is ribbon.
