Add a lock symbol on the protected sheet tab
A small lock symbol on the protected sheet tab would be a little addition but visually important!
Hi – due to concerns expressed by people who did not like the way the lock symbol was added to protected sheets, we will stop showing it on sheet tabs in Excel for Windows for the time-being. We may bring it back in the future in some other fashion.
If you’d like to see a lock symbol or some other visual indicator when a sheet is protected, please add your vote and comment here.

Many Thanks – Steve [Microsoft Excel]
At least add an option to choose whether or not you want the lock icon to appear when a sheet is protected. Then people that don't want the lock icon to appear on a protected sheet, can toggle off the lock icon while keeping the sheet protected.
Right now the lock icon appears in Excel online. I have many users updating a single workbook and they're always confused about what sheets are protected and which are not protected when they open the file in the Excel app. They're used to seeing the lock in Excel online.
please add it back it was a great feature

Hi, I would be happy to have this (Sheet Lock Symbol) feature back, very useful, You can set this feature at Excel File Option at Display Tab for user on/off selection
I would like suggest feature, Can it be possible When at Excel I group Certain Column or Rows, Suppose My sheet has more than 100 Column Fields I would put the Freeze Pane active at C2, I would be Grouping Column D to I with + and so on, but what I need is How can I Name my grouping + Sign (Can this be added added and (Name Range Tabs) as Column Group Names ! instead + sign The Group Row/Column should display Actual Given Name / Hope I explained it correctly / Thank you in advance
I really like the padlock symbol as it quickly let me know which sheets I had protected. I would love for it to be a user option. Thanks!

It was a really good thing to have that lock symbol there. It was very helpfull to know which sheet where protected in a book. Please get it back! Maybe it ioul be an option.
Bring it back. I've seen MANY more people need it back than the ones that don't. I agree is should be an option to turn off but many were in favor of this change. That small symbol is very helpful and for the ones who don't like it because they have to scroll more can turn it off.
Please DO NOT BRING BACK lock symbol !!!
I HATED it.
It disrupted my setup on my screen. I do NOT NEED to know which sheets are protected. I know which sheets I protect my files and made VBa codes to manage. Plus I can see by the deactivated commands in the Ribbon that a sheet is protected.
My files contain many sheets and I want to see as many tabs as possible on my screen and that STUPID Lock symbol increased the tab width and cut-off visually some tabs.
my vote is NO!. For those who want it, make it an option only
yes please bring it back or make it an option
It was great idea, at time we do forget to lock important sheet, Omnipresence of the lock symbol helped us recognize status of the sheet instantly.
Hello Microsoft? Anyone out there actually reading these multitude of requests to bring it back or at least make it an option???
Those lock indicators were so useful! I'm very disappointed that they are no longer showing, especially since I have to verify that about 30 -40 tabs are locked before allowing others to work on this workbook.
Please bring this back as an optional feature!
This was perfect for some worksheets.
