Add a lock symbol on the protected sheet tab
A small lock symbol on the protected sheet tab would be a little addition but visually important!
Hi – due to concerns expressed by people who did not like the way the lock symbol was added to protected sheets, we will stop showing it on sheet tabs in Excel for Windows for the time-being. We may bring it back in the future in some other fashion.
If you’d like to see a lock symbol or some other visual indicator when a sheet is protected, please add your vote and comment here.

Many Thanks – Steve [Microsoft Excel]
I really like the padlock symbol as it quickly let me know which sheets I had protected. I would love for it to be a user option. Thanks!

It was a really good thing to have that lock symbol there. It was very helpfull to know which sheet where protected in a book. Please get it back! Maybe it ioul be an option.
Bring it back. I've seen MANY more people need it back than the ones that don't. I agree is should be an option to turn off but many were in favor of this change. That small symbol is very helpful and for the ones who don't like it because they have to scroll more can turn it off.
Please DO NOT BRING BACK lock symbol !!!
I HATED it.
It disrupted my setup on my screen. I do NOT NEED to know which sheets are protected. I know which sheets I protect my files and made VBa codes to manage. Plus I can see by the deactivated commands in the Ribbon that a sheet is protected.
My files contain many sheets and I want to see as many tabs as possible on my screen and that STUPID Lock symbol increased the tab width and cut-off visually some tabs.
my vote is NO!. For those who want it, make it an option only
yes please bring it back or make it an option
It was great idea, at time we do forget to lock important sheet, Omnipresence of the lock symbol helped us recognize status of the sheet instantly.
Hello Microsoft? Anyone out there actually reading these multitude of requests to bring it back or at least make it an option???
Those lock indicators were so useful! I'm very disappointed that they are no longer showing, especially since I have to verify that about 30 -40 tabs are locked before allowing others to work on this workbook.
Please bring this back as an optional feature!
This was perfect for some worksheets.
This was such a great feature. Please please bring it back.
Please bring it back or make it an option.
It is a great enhancement and I miss it terribly. I work on spreadsheets all day and send them out and loved the fact that at a glance without going directly to the tabs, it showed if it was locked. Please, Please bring it back ASAP........

Please re-instate the lock icon, or add a toggle-able option on Excel. PLEASE.
Working at a home health agency that relies on having accurate spreadsheets at all times, not having that icon can actually lead to significant risk for our patients.
As the only scheduler for this agency, I need to maintain accurate and up-to-date admin-side records, which are kept in excel spreadsheets. If records of schedule adjustments aren't accurate, patients may end up not being seen - and for our home-bound patients, our clinicians are the often the only access they have to regular medical care (especially for those with lower incomes or with family not being able to provide care).
However, those records are changing constantly and rapidly, requiring constant upkeep over the course of a day - usually needing me to reference and update multiple sheets or workbooks at the same time. Since the risk of accidentally deleting/typing over vital information is so significant, I really can't go without some kind of safeguard.
My solution has been to use a macro hotkey that allows me to lock/relock a sheet whenever a change is made - it slows me down a tiny bit but is much safer than going without. However, without that icon, I cannot tell if I've already locked a sheet without trying to type into it, forcing me to slowly test every sheet I update and sometimes even causing me to type over information while doing so.
I understand the rationale behind removing the icon, but please, please at least make it a toggleable option. It's a small thing, but it actually makes a real difference to us and our patients.
Padlock icon was very helpful indicator. Please make an option for users to show it.
It was extremely useful for me. I understand there are other users out there that would not like to use this feature but for those of us who do could you please bring it back and allow for users to choose to use it or not. I believe an option of use or no use would satisfy everyone.
Please bring it back or make it an option
This was so helpful - please bring it back (possibly with an option to not show it for those who have concerns).
It was very handy, can you please bring it back? At least make it an option we can toggle on/off.
