How can we improve Excel for Windows (Desktop Application)?

power query - Data set date intelligance

I could do with the ability to do date filtering in power query like last year, current year etc... based on the last date in the data set.

Currently these types of filters are based on the current date.

If you have a data set with the last year as 2016, currently the year is 2018. The last year filter will return no data (it's filtering to 2018, and not the last data set year)

I think we should have a toggle, that allows you to chosse to either apply such filters based on the data set date or current date

Having the ability to set an easy filter to "The Last Year" in addition to "Last Year based on Today's date" would certainly add a bit more robustness to date filters. I think this could be especially useful for accountants as we are often dealing with finishing our year end in January, and the current date filters cause us a shift in our reporting filters before we are ready for them.
