Trust Center Trusted Locations needs to integrate with OneDrive/Live AutoSave redirection
The new OneDrive/Live AutoSave functionality opens a file at a cryptic live.com address, even if the user opens the file from C:\users\myuser\onedrive\somefile.xlsm. Adding C:\users\myuser\onedrive\ as a Trusted Location does no good and the file is still untrusted because it was actually opened from this cryptic live.com address.
The people who designed AutoSave for OneDrive/Live clearly never talked to the people who designed Trusted Locations.
No dice, @TSSDude: I can add both locations as Trusted, but macro-enabled documents from OneDrive still open in protected mode.
Crowed too soon... It solved my Normal.dotm issue, but not the others.
Good news, all: it seems that you can disable this behavior by turning off Office sync in OneDrive Settings.
This is not limited to XLSM. I get the same sh*t starting Word with Normal.dotm in my OneDrive, and also when I open an accdb. MS, this is not acceptable.

I love this. This is how MS works. It compartmentalizes EVERYTHING!
Have you tried Office 365? It is a nightmare of permissions and policies that do NOT integrate. Use Teams and it does not integrate with Sharepoint and viceversa. And so with every App!
Different level of Permissions are all over the places.
They do not communicate between departments and it is a downfall.

The difference between Apple/Google and Microsoft tends to be that the former believe in hiding all of their customerization tricks under the covers and the latter just plops them right there in the open and leaves the users to figure out workarounds to all the bad side effects.
I'd be hesitant to put this in there--hence unlikely to store .xlsm on OneDrive--because my long experience with Microsoft suggests that the month I put that URI in Trusted Locations, Microsoft will change about how all their back end fakes, like this URI, work and I'll be right back where I started.
If I open C:\users\myuser\onedrive\mydoc.xlsm. That's what Excel should ACT LIKE it's opening.
if you check the event viewer after trying to open the file from One Drive and get the 'not a trusted location' error, there will be an error that begins with Customerization URI: https://d.docs.live.net/random string/your one drive folder. Copy this verbatim into 'add trusted location' in your office programs and you are G2G. PITA for sure
