Disable option for new auto-save feature in Office 365 version 1707.
Please add a kill switch in the menu options for the new 'auto-save' feature. I absolutely hate the fact that this is enabled on all files stored on the cloud by default; it causes the timestamp on archived OneDrive and SharePoint workbooks to change to today's date immediately upon opening, which makes it look like something was changed after the fact. This has a huge impact on organizational reporting and I'm surprised that no one else is raising **** about it yet. This is causing me an awful lot of trouble, to the point where I am trying to figure out how to roll back my install of Office 365 and turn off automatic updates. Really not happy about this supposed new "enhancement."
In the reporting world, the timestamp of a saved file is often important, especially for files that are periodically refreshed and updated using an older version as the starting point (i.e. monthly or quarterly). With this new 'auto-save' feature the timestamp immediately changes to today's date and cannot be reverted back, even if you use the 'restore' option under the version history, and even if you us Save As under a different file name!! Really not happy about this supposed new "enhancement." What's even more frustrating is that it's an opt-out model on an individual file basis. That is to say, it's turned on by default, and you would have to turn it off for EVERY SINGLE FILE you work on. Instead, it should be an opt-in basis, where you at least have something in the options menu where to turn it off completely. Mega fail here anticipating the impact it might have on large organizations.

Nearly 2 years later and still not addressed!!!
The Modified File Timestamp should show the actual date and time that a file was modified. This has been the behavior since the beginning of computers!
With OneDrive, this Modified timestamp is immediately changed upon opening a workbook.
Microsoft, if you are really listening to feedback, please fix this!!!
Please set default to not AutoSave! What were you all thinking?! I have Macros that are supposed to trigger Calculate when the file is saved...doesn't work with the autosave feature. And as other have said timestamps!
don't set this feature as default please!
Absolutely agree. THE TIMESTAMP IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE FOR BUSINESS ACTIVITIES!!! The fact that simply opening and closing a file will change the timestamp is a ludicrous idea that causes EVIDENTIARY PROBLEMS when gathering files for audit. Essentially, this feature has made the timestamp useless, because it no longer represents the last time the file was intentionally saved. Organizationally, it's a problem because I can no longer sort by date to find files of the same date that were used in creating a work product.
Someone needs to fix this feature so you can ditch out of a file without it being saved. Original files should only be overwritten with user consent.
How can I vote without signing up for newsletters etc? I totally agree. (posting this comment with a dummy email)
