Reference Cells to Test Other Than the Cells Being Formatted in Conditional Formatting Rules
With the "Use formula..." rule, we can simulate all but one of the other rules while referencing cells other than the ones being formatted. But we can't simulate the effects (gradient color) of the "Format all cells based on their value" rule. By adding an additional (optional) cell reference to all rules except the "Use formula..." rule, we can more easily set up rules (and effects) across rows in tables as well as color status cells that contain text but which we want to add the additional affect of a gradient color. At a minimum, add the option just to the "Format all cells..." rule since that one is impossible to have effect on cells other than the evaluation cell.
