This seems to be an error in Excel according to many post in various forums. Would be nice to see this fixed in the future.
Microsoft Excel Team, Why would you not fix this? Why is this not a priority? How about some empathy for your customers who use Excel. I bet Satya Nadella would agree that a feature like this should have been fixed a long time ago. I'd like to think the Excel Team is reasonable.
On August 05, 2016 15:46 (see below), Scott Ruble (PM MSFT) (Admin, Office.com) commented that this issue would be resolved. It has been almost 3-years. What is the holdup, Excel Team?
Adrian Arroyo commented
Please from all the excel community, FIX this bug!
Please fix this, Microsoft Excel team. This bug was identified long ago and should have been fixed by now. I’ll bet every person on the Excel team agrees with me. So why has the fix been neglected?

Well, it's been a LONG time! This is clearly a bug - please address in next release.
I am surprised that more people have not voted for this feature. However, I pretty sure the reason for this is because the average Excel user doesn't know how to use the inverted color feature on a graph. Thus it would great if the Excel team would provide a fix on this issue, which has been known for many years.
