Quit having a spreadsheet reopen in a different size than it was when it was closed
When I close a spreadsheet, it is the size I want it to be. But when I reopen it, Excel is as likely as not to have "decided" that it knows better than I do what I want, and it reopens in a different size. Sorry, but I do know better than Excel does what I want, and resent the arrogance displayed in changing my preferences. Make it stop!!!
When you say that it opens a different size – can you give more info? Do you mean the application window is a different size (it shouldn’t be) or that the font sizes (zoom) are different? (again, they shouldn’t be)
Additionally, if you can post a video of what you’re seeing, that would be a big help for us.
If there is a problem here, it’s definitely something we’d want to fix.
Open new excel window in the same size as previous. It is very annoying to resize every new window!
I would like Excel to open the new excel file without restoring the previously minimize Excel file.

That was 2016.
Has any Excel version has been fixed yet ?
3 years of comments and not fixed!
Will it ever be fixed?
I have the same problem with Office applications - very annoying! Please add an option to disabled this behaviour. When i minimize something I want it to stay that way
This just started happening in the last week or so, after I got an update for Office 365. It happens for both Word and Excel.
For me, the behavior is very odd.
When I first start up my computer, the default windows sizes for both Word and Excel are always the same, but the applications seem to remember some odd size that I last opened before the Office 365 update.
If I change the window size for either application, they each remember that size for the rest of the day, UNTIL I reboot my computer. Then the windows sizes revert back to the weird sizes that I apparently used before the Office 365 update.
Since this is my work computer, that means that I have to resize these applications every day. This is extremely irritating.

Microsoft seems to always miss things when they migrate/upgrade an app. In this excel will no longer save the size AND position of multiple windows in an excel file, so none of the windows open in the same place with the same size they had at SAVE time. And for single window files, they open in a random place, that appears to be the last sized used when Excel opens a NEW file. This is impossible and a complete waste of time. They need to fix this. Can't be that difficult.
Yeah MS always trying their hardest to annoy us.
So annoying. Stay minimized darn you!!
This is similar to another request. They could probably be sorted at the same time.

I can clarify because I feel the pain of the original post. Excel (w/ 2016 I think) now allows different workbooks in separate windows (yea ... thank you). But now if I open 2 workbooks and I move 1 to the left and make it small and I move the other to the right and make it large then I close both workbooks. When I reopen either workbook (or any other workbook for that matter) Excel will open the the workbook to the location and size of the last workbook when Excel exited.
Excel should remember the window size (AND location) of each closed workbook and the next time that specific workbook is opened it should open with the same size and in the same location as the last time it was closed. Not based on the size and location of the last closed workbook in Excel.
Many of us work with multiple workbooks open at the same time and we position them and size them independently so we can better work on them simultaneously. Unfortunately when we close Excel and then open them the next day they all open cascaded in the position of the last closed workbook and with the window size of the last closed workbook.
This is a HUGE time vampire. If there are users who need every single file to open the same size of the last Excel file that was opened, I suggest that these are not power users and they need a "lite" version. what good is having the ability to work in multiple open files, if they all have to be sized the same? I work with upwards of 10 files a day. Each day, each file has to be resized. Super, super inefficient change in programming from previous Excel versions. This one needs to be fixed.

Our shop just "downgraded" to Office 365 -- There is no excuse for this sort of bug to go unfixed for years. At work I have few choices, but I'm making different ones at home for myself and for friends and family.
This is "Feature" is NOT beneficial to thousands of users!.
A t least make it an option! But first Please explain to everyone how this is a desirable behavior for ALL users!
Unfortunately MS is what my customers are forced to use and I have had to spend hours researching it and convincing them this is a designed in behavior and I can do nothing to fix it!
This is SOOOO FakeBook Like!! I refuse to use face book because Zuker Boy thinks he knows what is best for me and thousands of other users.

I hate the situation where all sheets are opened to the same Window size as the last sheet saved. I sometimes use narrow sheets with say 3 small columns but it is not possible to reopen it in its small window unless it is the last one saved - and then all the other "normal" sheets would be too small. The window position itself could also be saved. Suggest using a sheet specific sub option in the File\Options\Save tab.
I have certain Excel files that:
1) I use frequently
2) I like to have open in a specific size window in a specific place on the Windows desktop.
A lot of other files the size and place isn't so important; I like them to be most, but not all, of the screen.
I wish that Excel files had an optional property to set the window size and location so whenever I open a file with the property set, Excel opens the window right where I want it.
Also, when an Excel file has the optional size and location set, closing a window with that file does not change Excel's general, last-used location. That is, do not have Excel open to one of those special locations unless it is one of the optionally set files.
This issue goes back to Windows XP and Office 2003, and is still a problem with 64-bit Windows 10 and Office 2016! This behavior occurs with all Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint... It's very annoying.

I really like not having all workbooks contained in the same window. But a side effect is that now when a worksheet is closed, the next time it is opened its size and position are relative to either the last closed workbook or a currently open workbook. For those of us that work with a group of the same workbooks simultaneously this is a real hassle as we have to resize and reposition each workbook every time we open them.
Please have the workbook's size and position saved when each workbook is closed so that it can reopen in the exact same position w/ the same size. Obviously if for some reason (e.g. workbook copied to computer w different monitor resolution) the workbook cannot open in the same position w/ the same size then default to how it opens now.
I have the same problem. Please offer an option to disable this. If you could spend all that manpower on web slices then you can spare some people to fix this one issue.
