Allow users to control the order of items in the sunburst chart.
I'm using a sunburst chart to convey status, and visually it would be nice to have the chart in the same order as the items I want to talk about them, so the discussion flows clockwise around the wheel. Having an option for the layout to follow the order in the excel list would be wonderful
Thanks for the feedback. This is an interesting idea. We’ll consider it in our next round of planning. Please continue to vote on this feature idea.
Seriously annoying that this still has not been fixed. It is not that difficult to fix so the fact that you still has not fixed this shows how much you care about the users.
Time to update this. It would be an enormous value add
Please address this.
Seriously, how long has this been on your list? We just want the option to chose our own order in the Sunburst - is that too much to ask?!
This post was from 2016! How is this not a thing already? Come on, it's the most obvious thing to do, as sunbursts are basically pointless without it.
Yes please fix this! I want to use a series of sunbursts to show usage of difference services. It's SO confusing for my audience when the placement of a category differs each time.
It's a new year. How about fixing this in 2020?
I am using a simple trick to "cheat" the sunburst into doing this correct sorting. It is all about making sure that the value of entry sums up to the correct weight in the groups, you want, so that the auto-sorting of sunburst will actually sort stuff the way you want! :-).
Here is the code needed to yield the result displayed in the attached picture! Hope it may help someone.
Private Const m_csngMOffset As Single = 0.00001 'The actual constant choice here is less important... it's all about weights in groups and let sunburst sort it out!
Private Const m_csngEOffset As Single = 0.0000001
Private Sub FixEventLines()
Dim lRow As Long
Dim sngMonthWeight As Single
Dim lEntriesMonth As Long
Dim lEntryNo As Long
Dim sMtxt As String
Dim wshTgt As Worksheet
Set wshTgt = MyYearWheel.Worksheets("All Events") 'All events must be pre-sorted by date ascending for this to work!
lRow = 2
sngMonthWeight = 1
lEntriesMonth = 0
sMtxt = ""
Do While wshTgt.Cells(lRow, 6).Value <> "" 'Run through all rows with data omitting headlines
If wshTgt.Cells(lRow, 6).Value <> sMtxt Then 'Do more, when month changes
sMtxt = .Cells(lRow, 6).Value 'Set the new month name to detect next change
lEntriesMonth = GetNoOfEntries(lRow, 6, sMtxt) 'Count ahead the number of entries in this month
sngMonthWeight = sngMonthWeight - m_csngMOffset 'Make sure that each consecutive months "weighs" a little less!
lEntryNo = 1 'Count this as first entry of the month
lEntryNo = lEntryNo + 1 'Add one entry to the month
wshTgt.Cells(lRow, 8).Value = sngMonthWeight / lEntriesMonth - lEntryNo * m_csngEOffset 'Weigh this entry relative to month and own weight
lRow = lRow + 1 'Next row, please!
Private Function GetNoOfEntries(ByVal lStartRow As Long, ByVal lCol As Long, ByVal sTxt As String) As Long
Dim lEntries As Long
Dim lRow As Long
Dim wshTgt As Worksheet
Set wshTgt = MyYearWheel.Worksheets("All Events")
lEntries = 0
lRow = lStartRow
Do While wshTgt.Cells(lRow, lCol).Value = sTxt
lEntries = lEntries + 1
lRow = lRow + 1
Set wshTgt = Nothing
GetNoOfEntries = lEntries
The automatic sorting function renders the sunburst diagram essentially unusable. I cannot understand why you implemented this non-feature without the option of switching it off :O(
Doughnut is still available. However with a doughnut I could not solve my problem easily because I have an inner and an outer circle. Putting one doughnut directly above another (z order) would be a workaround. But this is far way from beeing convienient. My outer circle contains orders for years and quaters. And well, years and quaters have a fixed order. they can't be ordered by the amount of orders.

How about bringing back the doughnut - that would solve the problem.

It's more than three years now guys. C'mon, update please.

would be great if we could have such a basic functionality...
An "interesting idea"? It's pretty basic functionality for a sunburst chart! How hard is to change that? Amazed this hasn't been fixed. If you are look at months/ quarters data then it is really not helpful for instance. Maybe the reason there has been less votes on this, is that no-one bothers to use sunburst very often as it is very versatile or useful.

Any news? Dear I hope for an improved sunburst in 2019 regarding this issue in?
I've been waiting for a update ragarding this issue for the last year or so..
With 92 wotes i don't think this issue will have any priority for a long time.
Need to start a campaign to get those wotes up..
What is the status of this request? The initial is 2 years old and I'd love to hear that this has since been made available... or is expected in a near term release! PS - I don't see anything that indicates this has been done for excel users yet... I'm in total agreement with everyone looking for this capability.

Yes yes yes! I want my data to be symmetrical on the wheel. This would be incredibly helpful! Thank you for working this in to Excel's next release.
