  1. Excel Sort v/s Folder Sort

The sort order in excel is different then sort of files in a particular folder, eg.

    Folder sort
    abc 10.txt
    abc 12.txt
    abc 111.txt

    Excel Sort
    abc 10.txt
    abc 111.txt
    abc 12.txt

This is not one we’ll be changing, since Excel has sorted this way “forever” and we don’t want to break solutions that rely on this sort order.

(I think Windows changed their sort order in the Windows Vista-ish timeframe)

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

  3. Dates in Pivot Tables dont group correctly depending format existing in data.

If you have date column in a Pivot Table and change format to GENERAL, pivot table duplicate days. Example:

    Fill Column A with dates, A2:A4 with date 1/9/16, A5:A7 with 2/9/16 and A8:A10 with 3/9/16.
Create Pivot Table and put ColumnA as row (or column)
    Change A4:A5 to GENERAL format.
Refresh Pivot Table. The days (1/9/16, 2/9/16) are duplicated!!!

When you format cells as General, Excel starts treating them as numbers rather than dates (in fact, the cells even display the values that originally represented the dates entered (42378, 42409).

Since Dates are treated specially in Pivots (and Tables), when you have dates and numbers (the entire column isn’t dates), Excel treats it as “mixed data” and shows all unique data items – in this case, showing the numbers as dates b/c that’s how the PivotTable column was created.

If you change the number format of the PivotTable field to “General” (as done with the cell values) – by right clicking on it, choosing Field Settings > Number Format > General, it will show the mixed format values in the PivotTable.

Hope that helps. In the future, answers.microsoft.com is a great place for questions like this.

    Cheers,
    Dan [MS]

  4. The File ribbon should be separate form the other ribbons

The File Tab opens a full screen page of options and constantly lags. This should be on a different row than, "home, insert, page layout" etc

The Ribbon (across all apps that have a Ribbon) is consistent in that it has a single row of tabs. We aren’t going to change that.

    Hi Annette,

As you noticed in the Mac area of UserVoice, comments use an old technology in Excel that we’re not investing directly in anymore, and instead we’re migrating comments to a new technology that will allow more control over their appearance (and things like fonts).

In the meantime, a couple of workaround options for you, that you may already be aware of:

    1. You can use Windows Magnifier – click on Start > type “Magnifier”; you can then magnify parts of your screen, including comments.

    2. You can zoom the Excel sheet, which will also zoom comments, and make the text larger. You can find zoom on the View ribbon, or in the lower right corner of the Excel status bar.

Hope that helps until we can get comments moved to the new platform.

    Dan [MS]

  7. Add a function returning the corresponding quadrant to a specific angle.

Add a function returning the corresponding quadrant (1, 2, 3 or 4) to a specific angle. Preferrable with the option to choose input angle in degrees or radians.

We are unlikely to add a specialized function for this, but the great thing about Excel is that formulas allow you to build this function already. As Kenneth explained in the comments, you can do this today with existing functions (I can’t copy them here due to some we’re UserVoice formatting with the MOD function)

    Hope that helps,
    Dan [MS]

  8. Excel 2013 Find and Replace text box

In Excel 2013, when you click on Find and Replace, the dialog box that is opened don't let you click on the Find What text box for the 1st time (the cursor mouse isn't showed). You can enter the text you want to find, but you can't click there.

We aren’t going to go back to Excel 2013 to fix this there (it may only happen on certain computers), but it looks like this works correctly in Excel 2016.

I’m resolving this idea, so you’ll get your votes back.

    Hi Lorraine,

Your best bet it to call Microsoft support (phone number on the card/box/your account page) and have a quick chat with them. We don’t handle any of the sales stuff on the engineering team.

  11. Bring back solid support for SAVING in dBase (DBF) format.

Bring back solid support for SAVING in dBase (DBF) format. The old DBF save format by Excel failed in many areas. However, following some simple, basic guidelines (e.g. set column width equal to the largest data in that column, set column headers according to simple guidelines, etc.),

I could MANUALLY get it to work well every time. Why Excel could not programmatically do what I could do manually was always beyond me. Even worse, why that TOOK OUT the ability to save in DBF format is a show stopper. :-(

The Windows 10 updates are not something that the Excel team owns or has any influence over. I’m declining this idea so you get your votes back.

  19. Share Workbook containing tables

In the review tab there is a button to Share your workbook. Unfortunately it does not work if you have a table in the workbook (there is an FYI if you hoover over the button). Question: why does this not work for workbooks with tables? I use tables all the time and most of my files are used by several people.

  20. Color and format items in listbox.

After creating a 1d or 2d listbox in a userform, I would like to be able to format the background or foreground color of each item; or change the text color and bold it base on some criteria. Essentially; treat the listbox items as if each item row and column like a cell in excel. Highlight a whole row or column if possible, or bold the line.
